French storage company LaCie has announced the next evolution of its 2big professional dual-bay RAID storage solution. Designed by Scottish product designer Neil Poulton, the LaCie 2big Dock now includes Thunderbolt 3 and a host of other connectivity options in a bid to be the central hub for creative professionals.
The docking station, loaded with Seagate IronWolf Pro drives (no surprise considering Seagate is the parent company of LaCie), affords transfer speeds as high as 440MB/s (in RAID 0). At that rate, LaCie says you'll be able to transfer one hour of 4K footage in just one minute.
Flanking a USB 3.0 port, the front-facing SD and CF card slots make it easy to pull media from memory cards. Two Thunderbolt 3 ports can be found on the verse along with a USB 3.1 port, a DisplayPort for connecting to a high-resolution display and a lock slot for security purposes.

The LaCie 2big Dock with Thunderbolt 3 can be configured with 12TB, 16TB or 20TB of capacity and includes a five-year limited warranty. It'll be available through resellers this summer, we're told, although pricing hasn't yet been revealed.
Don't expect it to come cheap, however, as a current-generation Thunderbolt 2 model with 16TB of storage commands around $1,000.
