DJI Osmo Action 3

With its great video quality and innovative mounting system, the DJI Osmo Action 3 is a solid lower-cost alternative to the GoPro Hero11 Black.

It’s well constructed and waterproof with decent image quality and superb stabilisation, plus a fantastic mounting system, but can’t match the (admittedly pricier) GoPro in terms of video and photo performance. Still, it’s a fine all-rounder, and has plenty of appeal as a budget alternative to GoPro’s flagship.

Image quality can’t match the best GoPro cameras but the Osmo Action 3 is cheaper and has plenty to recommend it.

Undercutting much of the competition, the DJI Osmo Action 3 may not be the best action camera available, but it could be the best value option for you. It dives deeper than the competition with waterproofing up to 16m, has a wider field of view, and delivers excellent battery life. While it recycles the same core camera hardware we saw in the Action 2, its more practical body and excellent mounting system also impress – so if you don't need best-in-class image quality but want a robust, powerful, long-lasting GoPro alternative, DJI's latest Action could be just the ticket.

For most adventurers, the Osmo Action 3 is the perfect balance of quality and price. Stabilized 4K video looks great and the camera can take a lot – not just rough and tumble but temperature extremes. It isn’t cheap, but the price is comfortably less than a similar GoPro and won’t push you towards a subscription after 12 months.

Aside from the cage, the rest of the camera is outstanding. When you consider the extended battery life and the enhancements to Rocksteady and its two alternative stabilization modes. You essentially have a camera that doesn’t just accel at action but brings the battle to GoPro’s door.

A great value action camera and a tonic to year-on-year price hikes – the Action 3 isn’t perfect, but for the price, it’s a great option.
