The HyperX Alloy Origins is near-identical to its Alloy FPS RGB sibling, but with HyperX's new custom-made switches under the hood. They're good, but maybe not worth the extra cost for a keyboard with few premium features.

The keyboard feels great, but it looks great as well. The aluminum housing with the floating keycap design allows for great under-glow for the RGB LEDs and you have per-key RGB lighting so you can get pretty creative with the effects. I also like that no space is really wasted on this keyboard, it is what it is and doesn’t need anything extra. One thing you don’t find on full-size keyboards is a detachable USB cable, but you have that here and is it Type-C which is a plus too.

With two key switch variants now available the Alloy Origins will have broader appeal, and I definitely prefer these new HyperX Aqua switches (with their firm and tactile – yet quiet – operation) myself. Bottom line, the Alloy Origins from HyperX remains a top-notch mechanical gaming keyboard – particularly if you add PBT key caps to the mix.
