Intel Core i9-10980HK Review: We've got mixed feelings about what the Core i9-10980HK delivers, though it's clear that when you're shopping for a gaming laptop, the CPU is one factor of many. The MSI GE66 Raider we tested for this review seems like a great machine and we think MSI has done a really nice job with its construction and attention to detail. It's far from a value option, but evidently the Core i9-10980HK is not aiming for value either.
If your top priority is having a cooler laptop than all your friends, then go ahead and splurge on the GE66 Raider, because it undoubtedly will be. I hope more companies try unique design stuff like this because it makes the whole thing more fun — and at the end of the day, most people are buying gaming laptops to have fun. And if I see you using this in a coffee shop, I will be very, very jealous.
The MSI GE66 Raider is a workhorse that, at first glance, appears to be a boring gaming laptop. Between performance, respectable battery life, overall size, and despite the keyboard that's a touch too soft, the GE66 Raider is an attractive gaming laptop that should make anyone happy.
Its loud cooling fans notwithstanding, the MSI GE66 Raider is one of the best-performing 15-inch gaming laptops money can buy.
Hands on: The MSI GE66 Raider looks set to receive a mixed reception. While it offers a brilliantly accurate display and a strong performance, all of that is overshadowed by overwhelming fan noise. Pricing is competitive with rival machines on the market, so key differences such as unique lighting setup and a middling keyboard could sway you either way.
