Fairphone 6+

The Fairphone (Gen 6+) is a lightly refreshed version of the Fairphone (Gen 6), and now available to buy in the US. It's a compelling prospect for those who value repairability, and want to support companies with strong values.

Can you find better specs for the money? Sure. The Pixel 10a will easily give you a better camera system. For $50 more, the new Samsung Galaxy S26 FE delivers flagship-grade performance and a telephoto camera. But you’ll also be out of pocket if you drop either phone and need a screen replacement. The Fairphone doesn’t have that problem, and you’ll have a little more peace of mind that your phone was made sustainably, with fair wages paid out to folks in the supply chain. The Fairphone (Gen. 6+) proves you no longer have to make massive compromises just to take a stand.

Sustainability is the main focus, but the Fairphone Gen 6 Plus is also a perfectly capable mobile in other respects, with a lovely OLED screen, a modern operating system, decent mid-range performance and good, if basic, camera quality. It doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary, but it should last you a long time.

The Fairphone 6 Plus is a repairability champion first and a performance phone second, backing up its screwdriver-friendly design with a genuinely bright, sharp OLED screen and solid battery life. Its Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip is a step up from its predecessor but still trails several similarly priced mid-rangers, and the camera setup is held back by the absence of a telephoto lens.

The Fairphone 6 Plus is a uniquely positioned phone, which makes it surprisingly tricky to judge. When you factor in its key ability to be opened up and taken apart at will, with an ecosystem of replaceable parts and accessories at reasonable prices, it becomes something quite special. If you’re bothered by the level of e-waste that’s seemingly endemic to the smartphone business and want a phone that will last longer than most, then the Fairphone 6 Plus is the best counter yet.
