What's New

Apps no longer starting after Windows 11 upate since March 2026

Generally: If Microsoft does Microsoft things, Microsoft is to blame. The apps are developed and running for over 25 years. They run with Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 and even 11. They run with Wine on Linux. They even run smoothly on a Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 with its ARM architecture using Box86/Wine.

On some Windows 11 systems, mp3DirectCut and 1by1 apparently no longer start after a system update. No error message is displayed. Some users report that it works again after uninstalling update KB5079391. Others tell that fixing with update KB5086672 also does not help.

The problem could also be caused by Defender's heuristics, which sometimes simply delete the executable. This can especially affect newer versions of 1by1 and mp3DirectCut since they have less reputation.

What I could do was changing the binary format of the executables of the apps and the distribution self extractor. mp3DirectCut 2.40 has already been modified this way. For 1by1 I made a pre-release of 2.16 which you can download here: 1by1_216.20260402.exe
