007 First Light has modest system requirements - if you have 32GB of RAM

In brief: After announcing their collaboration with Nvidia, IO Interactive has revealed basic system requirements for 007 First Light. The upcoming third-person shooter, which presents a new origin story for the famous spy, appears to be optimized to support older mid-range graphics cards, at least in 1080p.

To reach 60fps in 1080p, IO recommends an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or any Intel Arc GPU with at least 12GB of VRAM. Meanwhile, an Nvidia GTX 1660, RX 5700, or Intel GPU with at least 8GB can achieve 30fps. IO's mention of the ROG Xbox Ally on its website indicates that First Light might also perform well on handheld gaming PCs.

The only apparent caveat is that 32GB of system RAM is recommended for 60fps gameplay. The few games that request that amount typically do so to achieve high framerates in 4K. It remains unclear why First Light might need 32GB in 1080p, or how demanding the game will be at higher resolutions. First Light will also require at least 80GB of storage space.

Although IO did not mention ray tracing while outlining its partnership with Nvidia, First Light might still include the feature. The game utilizes the studio's in-house Glacier 2 engine, which powers IO's recent Hitman trilogy. While Hitman's system requirements are extremely light by modern standards, Hitman 3 introduced a notoriously demanding ray tracing implementation.

IO's development diary primarily focused on First Light's use of DLSS 4 upscaling and multi-frame generation. The game also introduces a volumetric smoke method to simulate the effect's interactions with physical environments.

A detailed gameplay demonstration from late last year revealed that First Light mixes Hitman's stealth elements with cinematic shooter action reminiscent of the Uncharted series. IO described the game, which includes performances from Gemma Chan and Lenny Kravitz, as the most ambitious project in its history.

007 First Light is scheduled to launch on May 27, 2026, on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles (with Play Anywhere support), and Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-ordering the game grants access 24 hours early. IO likely delayed First Light from its original March release date when Grand Theft Auto VI moved its launch from May to November.

I'll be interested if it can run on a Steam Deck, Uncharted 4 runs very well on that, although judging the minimum requirements it's not going to be possible.

I had 32GB of DDR4 in 2021.

Now my system has 64GB of DDR5.

16GB hasn't been enough for quite awhile now.
 
I'd say IO Interactive and Nivdia share roughly the same level of distain for their gaming customers so it'll be a great culture fit. Also, because it's IO Interactive, they'll likely sell the game piece by piece, which means I won't be interested in it until they stop releasing DLC for it.

Performance of 3060Ti _AND_ 12GB VRAM does not mix well in world of nVidia.

I think you are out of touch with many people with PCs these days. And certainly a person who goes overkill on general RAM needs.

I was considered crazy to spend the extra for 32gb ram in 2019. But like many people I don’t have the cash to upgrade the one thing everyone needs (GPU).

Many people are still rocking 16gb.
 
IO saying this runs on older mid-range GPUs but not explaining the RAM requirement feels like classic "trust us, it’s optimized."
 
Anything beyond 2080 just a money grab. Regular people won’t notice any difference and optimized games run great on 1080. Gaming industry laziness to optimize slop programming hurts only the gaming industry

This is Unreal Engine 5, pretty much no UE5 games runs well on Steam Deck - most of them runs terrible actually - we need an updated version of Deck ASAP with FSR 4 support and just better hardware in general.

Sold my Steam Deck OLED due to being weak. Emulation of older games/consoles got boring eventually. Newer AAA games runs too bad for me to bother. Even on low.

AMD Z3 should get Zen5/6, maybe even with 3D cache (would make perfect sense here) + RDNA4 minimum for full and proper FSR 4 support.

X3D and FSR 4 would be win/win for a somewhat weak handheld.

X3D would allow for vastly better framerates, while running at lower clocks and saving power.

FSR 4 is gold for higher perf while saving power as well.
FSR 3.1 and older is just too bad to be useful in comparison. Looks too bad. FSR 2/3 especially looks very bad in low resolution which Deck use.

FSR 4 is vastly better for low res. Just like DLSS have been for years, since version 2 from 2020.

So yeah, Z3 series can't come soon enough. Z1/Z2 is too dated really, don't support FSR 4 and never will.

The minimum CPU requirement is the "i5-9500K," a CPU that does not exist. The minimum GPU is the GTX 1660, but the minimum requirement is 8GB of VRAM while the 1660 has 6GB. The recommended GPU is the 3060-Ti, but the recommended VRAM is 12GB, while the 3060-Ti (and the 3070, 3070-Ti, and 3080) all have less than 12GB. Was this written by chatgpt??

While I do have a workstation with 32GB of RAM, I'm a power user. We both are. No "regular user" runs 32GB of RAM in their rig and wonders if they're still leaving performance on the table.

You know what the average user runs? 8GB RAM, maybe 16, on a 12th Gen Intel processor and a 1TB SSD...and that's for Windows. If we're talking about ChromeOS, 4-8GB and Intel Celeron, because Linux is not nearly as heavy.
 
Once again, AMD never misses an opportunity to "miss an opportunity".

Here we have a game, that hasn't even be released yet, and the "Recommended PC Hardware Requirements" call for specify an AMD Radeon RX 6700XT—a card that was just dumped into the "maintenance" branch. Which means, according to AMD's own press announcement, it's the minimum recommended card for a game it shouldn't even be receiving driver support for.

The tech industry needs to take a long, hard look into a mirror and do some deep introspection, before "RAM shortage" isn't the only casualty of this very-public midlife crisis...

I also love that Intel doesn't even get a mentioned GPU: they get a generic "Intel Discrete GPU Equivalent" placeholder, because apparently, their cards aren't even worth the manpower required to make an educated guess. Intel really should build out an absolute unit of a GPU catalog and make Nvidia and AMD look like the cheap alternative. That would sort out this mess REAL quick.

I never defined what my workloads are on this system.

So how do you know I went overkill on ram?

And what is the average user?

When I'm buying hardware in the office for our users nobody gets a laptop with less than 32GB we no longer give them machines with 16GB of ram.

And those regular users they are not playing any games on these machines. Not the graphic designers with TR and 64GB+ that we have in the office.

When I give build advice to my friends I also recommend 32GB of ram 16GB of ram in Windows in 2026 isn't it anymore.

I don't think I know anyone using a chromebook they are too slow.

The majority of people I know using linux are dev's and power users not regular users.
