10 PC Games You Should Check Out These Holidays

The two games I should be in love with:

BF4: is garbage. It's buggy, glitchy, and has the worst netcode I have EVER seen. BF4 feels NOTHING like BF3 to me. It's like they took all the suggestions from gamers during BF3's life, and put every single one of them in the game. ie: Too many rooftops, little to no recoil (after you slap on certain attachments), OP infantry and vehicle weapons (TV missiles, LAW, dumb missiles that automatically lock on if they are close), and did I mention the rooftops? Tried to play BF4 last night and for the 14th straight day and it still freezes with sound loop. The BF4 issues and next steps forum thread is approaching 500 pages. Nuff said. I would of went with CoD Gosts, but even CoD gamers are saying its not great, so I'm glad I didnt' get it, but to their credit, it is actually playable.

Batman AO: Copy and paste. Nuff said.

I'm extremely disappointed in both of these titles, and that makes me a sad panda.

to top it off. many folks who pre-ordered the game under the advertised "Premium expansion pack" were given no explanation that their so called premium expansion pack did not mean "premium account" but rather just one lousy map pack called China Rising. had they just called it "china rising" by itself it wouldn't be a problem. but consider the history of the franchise, the word premium was typically associated with all the upcoming DLC, they made no attempt to explain the newly differentiated changes during the promotional pre-order period, no asteric, hyperlink, or disclaimer on the pre-order page. countless websites, forums, and gamers out there pre-ordered the game under the assumption that it came with premium account, only to be disappointed and asking where their premium account was.
Actually, those who preordered it received "the premium expansion pack China Rising". There was no fine print saying you didn't get premium because it said you get one expansion. The limited edition of the game just plain comes with China Rising and it was $70 instead of $60 and came with extra battlepacks. Considering they sell the game for $60 and premium for $50, you'd have to be pretty ignorant to think you were getting both for $70.

that's incorrect. the quotation "premium expansion pack China rising" was added later towards the final release date. here is a screen grab of the original promotion before they changed the wording.

countless forums filled with pre-order folks who ordered the game under the original slogan fell for it.

even EA's own support page are filled with posts of folks asking where their premium account was under the original slogan. people even posted their invoices.

do some googling before you start calling people ignorant.

Meh, seems to depend who you ask, one of my friends who's a CoD fanatic not only had issues with the game crashing out when it tried to load a level but if he by chance got into one he got really bad lag.

Agreed on BF4 though, they really need to sort it out, it is such a shame they rushed it, Dice need to stand up to EA and tell them "No we are not rushing it, if you won't play ball we'll find another publisher".

I'm sure there is another publisher out their that would take them on :)

"Preorder now to get a Battlefield 4 premium expansion pack"
The adjective "a" corresponds to "one" as in...you get one expansion pack. There will be four (maybe five, I'm too ignorant to google the correct number) premium expansion packs total, thus giving one away. Don't call me ignorant for understanding the English language.

I don't know what kind of english you studied under. but look up dictionary for "pack". the word Pack in nature implies a group, or multiple of. who is the ignorant one.

pack

1 [pak] Show IPA
noun
1.
a group of things wrapped or tied together for easy handling orcarrying; a bundle, especially one to be carried on the back ofan animal or a person: a mule pack; a hiker's pack.
2.
a definite quantity or standard measure of something wrappedup or otherwise assembled for merchandising (sometimes usedin combination): a pack of cigarettes; a six-pack of beer.
3.
the quantity of something that is packaged, canned, or the like,at one time, in one season, etc.: last year's salmon pack.
4.
a group of people or things: a pack of fools; a pack of lies.
5.
a group of certain animals of the same kind, especially predatory ones: a pack of wolves.

in another word, "a group of".... of what?

Since EA chose to vaguely NOT disclose exactly the known quantity within the premium expansion pack, until later on when they changed the wording to specifically "China Rising expansion pack". it's only reasonable for a reasonable person to be confused. even EA's own agent in a chat support admited to me that it was confusing, and they changed the wording later on. but offered no solution to the matter. if it weren't confusing to begin with, there wouldn't be countless people online like me, nor pre-order, or even post like this.

here's what FTC defines as false advertisement:

According to the FTC's Deception Policy Statement, an ad is deceptive if it contains a statement - or omits information - that:
 • Is likely to mislead consumers acting reasonably under the circumstances; and
 • Is "material" - that is, important to a consumer's decision to buy or use the product."

again, had they simply said "plus china expansion pack", or link the user on the pre-order page to another page that explains that "Premium expansion pack" does not have the same meaning as conventional Premium upgrade like in BF3, which I had. there wouldn't be an issue. the fact that many online forums are filled with this type of confusion from people who pre-ordered under that "premium expansion pack" slogan says a lot.

People are intentionally blowing this out of proportion. Yes, a pack implies multiple items. China Rising expansion pack includes multiple maps, guns, vehicles, and equipment. I don't see how they misused the term "pack". I studied the English language in a manner not to read into things. EA isn't exactly Shakespeare. They were not trying to be clandestine about their actions nor were they attempting to mislead their customers. BF3 came with a single expansion pack for those that preordered so it is a safe assumption that BF4 would come with a single expansion pack for those that preordered. If you want something for nothing, keep voting Democratic.

who is the one blowing this out of proportion. you're the one started getting into the grammar. and now your'e the one deviating off into politics. let me guess, you rather those who do not have health insurance to just die. or you rather pay NO taxes at all with NO government. I think we all know where you stand. Or perhaps you can pave your own road and take out your own garbage and live on your own little island with your own imaginary WMD.

for the record, the promotion was misleading, if it weren't there wouldn't be so many people asking the same question online. EA wouldn't quietly change the wording later on. I know I am amongst many. next time you want to call somebody ignorant, better check yourself.

I'm just gonna pop in here and say - the original wording of BF4 Premium would make me believe I'm getting the Premium pack (ignoring prices).

The advertisement (http://I.imgur.com/qh4Imgy.png) has pretty much the same wording as BF3 premium pack.

It has never been a better time than to game on PC than now, there's so many games to play and the accessibility through digital distribution is amazing. More and more titles and genres are making their way to the scene. It's especially refreshing to hear the Japanese market admitting now that the PC has become a viable platform to publish games on.

The entire selection sucks. 2014 with Witcher 3 cannot come soon enough.

Baldur's Gate II remake may be something that I will look at. In all honesty, hoping someone will pick up the Vampire Masquerade and either redo the game or just work off The World of Darkness universe. Ports from pen and paper RPGs tend to have well developed backgrounds to provide immersing gameplay.

I don't see forums full of misled individuals; I see forums full of people that are trying to get EA to give them premium for $10 instead of $50. Looking at their history, I would say that they are going to be sorely disappointed. You can't exactly call me ignorant when I have looked into the forums and I understand what they are talking about. They (and you) just want something for nothing. A simple Google search is all that is required to see that Premium and the game are not even sold together yet. I wanted to purchase a premium edition of the game as I know that I will purchase it. I purchased premium already because I support games that I love, unlike some individuals.

now you're just trolling. it was NOT a simple search during the promotion period when information was NOT widely available to people.

not only you don't know English, which judging by your political background, I am not surprised. but you don't even know how to do a proper search.

and more

one of the post was started by me, while others I chimed in. and that was just from the first page of the search result. one only has to do a search for the word "premium" in EA's support forum you come up with countless similar threads, as well as threads with people confused by what the premium offers.

again, here is what FTC says about false advertisement:

According to the FTC's Deception Policy Statement, an ad is deceptive if it contains a statement - or omits information - that:
 • Is likely to mislead consumers acting reasonably under the circumstances; and
 • Is "material" - that is, important to a consumer's decision to buy or use the product."

this means that if enough people are confused by a statement that lacks information, it's a potential ground for false advertisement. and it has already been pointed out here by not just me that the original slogan was confusing.

you keep bringing up "want something for nothing". I don't know where you keep getting that from. but that's not the issue here. the issue here is not getting what you paid for, or getting less than what you paid for, or getting less than what you thought you paid for simply due to the mis-information, or lack of information that was given. had the promotion been clear and informative to the consumers during the promotion period, some people would choose to NOT pre-order, some would have. I would have chose NOT to pre-order and waited a year until the game was in the bargain bin.

but it seems your frustration stems from something else entirely not related to this issue, but rather political. perhaps whoever you voted for lost and now you're just bitter. perhaps you should elect more official in your district to represent you in the future to get what you want, or run for office yourself. this is a democratic nation, majority wins. you might not like the current administration, or the direction that it's going, tough luck. but take that condescending tone else where. because keep trolling here with the same "want something for nothing" is not helping anybody and certainly not contributing to the post.

<sarcasm>Me too I get my panties in a bunch about spelling and grammar on the Internet.</sarcasm>

Seriously, stop with the ignorance, most people's first language is _not_ English. If you must correct them, do it to help; no need to be a prick about it.

Back to the topic at hand: I recommend giving Path of Exile a go, it is a nostalgia godsend (for D2 addicts).

It was never an issue, until someone started the "proper English" agenda. but otherwise I could tYpE liKe tHIs tOO.

No the problem is you don't understand that "a pack" does not include everything as in "all packs", even when it is labeled as "Premium". Premium pack is not the same as premium account. That was your mistake and apparently others as well, assuming premium ties everything premium together. If a pack is not itemized, then you can assume it comes with nothing or settle with what comes with it. I can promise you EA is in the business of making money and will not give anything away when it was not specified.

Really? They put Call of Duty Ghosts on that list? That game is utter garbage and the port is complete ****. It doesn't run on any PC well, this is a PC centric site, I assume they would have known.

I can agree with that to a certain extend. and that was the issue and confusion that myself and many others had during the pre-order phase. had EA done a more informative job on differentiating the pack vs account in the pre-order phase, this would be a none issue. but they chose to be vague in the beginning and only changed their wording toward the end. it does not however change the fact that it was vague to begin with. I simply was pointing out the issue that took place in the beginning and that consumers find themselves confused.

You didn't pay for premium so why do you deserve it? You got exactly what you paid for which was the game itself and possible one expansion, pending you preordered it.

if the "pre-order" users knew exactly what they were getting then yes. except in this case. the effort and information that was available to the pre-order customers was not clear, therefore misleading, and NOT exactly what one paid for.

I've heard rumours that COD:Ghost runs badly on PC too. Fps issues with GTX 780, and that youtube PewDiePie dude apparently ran into issues with dual Titans.

And here I am enjoying LotR: War in the North, from the latest Humble Bundle. :D

Even with the ridiculous 80% CPU usage on an i7-2600K. And that is from the second of executing the game, without selecting a character and loading a saved point.
