Acer first showed off the Iconia A700 at CES earlier this year but now the powerhouse of a tablet is official and available for pre-order. The device has a 1.3GHZ Nvidia Tegra quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. Those specs alone make it a worthy contender among Android tablets but Acer is topping it off with a 10-inch, 1920 x 1200 resolution “IPS quality” panel.

Currently it’s a race between Acer and Asus to get the first 1080p Android tablet out. Neither the A700 nor Asus’ Transformer Pad 700 Infinity have a firm release date, but this seemingly puts Acer a step ahead.

Other features include a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB memory cards to expand storage, a microHDMI port, a microUSB port, an HD camera for video conferencing on the front, and a 5MP camera with auto-focus on the rear for stills and video. There’s also support for Dolby Mobile 3+ and 5.1-channel surround sound when hooked to a TV set or receiver via HDMI.

Lastly, Acer is also making big claims when it comes to battery life. According to the company, the A700 will deliver up to 11 hours of video playback on Wi-Fi and 13 hours when playing local files. The tablet weighs 1.47 pounds and comes in silver or black. Pre-orders are open now at $450 on Acer’s website.

I am definitely buying one. I have the Acer A500 16GB model and I couldn't be happier with it with the exception of Skype stability after the official ICS update earlier this year. Craiglist the A500 to get the A700, yay...

If Acer really wants to make noise and actually be able to play in the high-end tablet game, they need to up the specs a bit more. They should go with a snapdragon and 2GB memory to start.
