Inactive Adobe Flash Player virus, cannot start computer

Running Vista Home Premium

I have no recovery disc as one did not come with the HP Pavillion I got 4 years ago.

It will not start in safe mode in any of the options I am given
The question is probably this: I don't mind having to reformat hard drive. It will probably clean up the rest of the computer so how do I get to that menu without Windows starting up and is this my only option? Thanks. Simon in NJ

One tried and true method is to slave your hard drive in another system and access this hard drive through said system. You should be able to run virus scans, etc. as well as hard drive diagnostics.
