Air cooler for 7900x

With the new I9's around the corner, can you use a regular non-water cooler for the new i9's? I was not planning on Overclocking ...much. I was hoping that an aftermarket cooler such as a Nocta would let me push the cpu to say just 4.0 ghz rather than the stock clocks it comes with.

Has any of the editors or professionals had an experience using an air cooler for the new chips?

Thanks for the replies!

Sure you can the only gamble with that is getting real good thermal paste and finding a good fan rpm speed to help keep it chilled out 24/7.

Make sure you read closely to what they have to say, then double back over to newegg and see which compatible models work.
Make sure to look for models with fans 2000+ rpm speed, when you get one eventually and decide to OC or auto OC,
The system shouldn't break a sweat changing the fan speeds when its idle or on full load.

Thank you for the reply, This really helps. I may OC it a little bit to 4.0 ghz but nothing past that. I am worried that if I went water cooling I would make a mistake and fry that chip.

No it won't long as you read the manual and follow a video on youtube by someone else who knows what they are doing.
You shouldn't have any problems as for the water coolers themselves give the makers till the first week of september.
Either to make their current products ready for lga 2066 or launch newer products for the chipset.

Least 7990x isn't like amds failed 8 core system, over clocks like a beast but dies like a beast when it gets way too hot.
The higher voltage requirements needed for the chip the more heat it will give off.

When get your system setup, take the side panel off put your hand near the aircooler just to see if it is cooling right or not.

7900x? Prepare your air conditioning for this blast of heat!
Get a Noctua NH-D15 and 2x Noctua NF-A14 industrialPPC-3000 PWM to replace stock fans :)
On a more serious note though - you'll have to wait until Noctua release cpu coolers designed for X299 platform. They'll have something for you.
