Altered Carbon becomes the latest show to fall under Netflix's axe

The concept of Altered Carbon was brilliant but it's exicution wasn't the best. The first season overall was better but I think that was more the setting. The second season, stayed in one location for too long and it know it was more to do with that the stack tech was originally from that planet but it just got boring quick, which is ashame because the acting was spot on.

As for people slagging off netflix tv shows theres been plenty of good netflix tv series, including ozark, house of cards, stranger things etc, although house of cards still bums me out because I loved it but when I found out about the spacey stuff it left a bad taste in my mouth :(
The 1st season had a huge budget, like equal to first three seasons of GoT. The second was very downsized and I enjoyed it thoroughly. There are far worst shows out there that have been allowed to go on for far too long. I felt like one more for this show would be sufficient wrap up this story thread and it will be a shame if they do not set more stories in this universe.

Not for the first time: Why do we not yet have a system for fans to pre-buy? I'd pay $10 or $20 off the bat, right now, to ensure S03 gets made. I bet I'm not the only one. Then OK we get first crack or something, but we're also essentially sponsoring something we want to see. A good system would then credit us proportionately if and when the show went on to exceed expectations - we'd be unlikely to make money as such, but we'd probably get some return on our investment.

They could carry on the animation.

Considering Season 1 was an atrocious adaptation of the book, and was generally hated by fans of the novels, it really needed to stand on its own legs to gain momentum. And it didn't; it was OK at best, and pretty mediocre in a lot of ways.

So, not true to source material, and not good enough to grow independently of source material. I'm shocked it took this long to pull the plug.

As a huge fan of the books, wow what a relief. Season 1 was cool, but Season 2 was such an awful attempt at combining characters and plot elements of the 2nd and 3rd books, which were amazing and could have supported their own full seasons. It was as if the source material wasn't good enough for them, and they were rushing to get through it so they could move on to original storylines. I'm glad I won't have to endure what they would have come up with. And still hopeful that Takeshi Kovacs (because no one calls him "Tak" lol) will make it to the silver screen (although Netflix probably owns the rights and won't sell anytime soon)

They should reboot and actually use the sourceag
I didn't like the second season, but I like how it explained a lot of the back story. I rewatched season 1 after watching season 2 and it made season 1 much more enjoyable so I'm thankful for that.
You all are focused on 'number of seasons' when the show itself had an objectively terrible second season. It wasn't canceled because 'oh no, they changed the lead', it was cancelled because the plot was contrived.

The first season brilliant writing, the second season had terrible writing. And a completely different premise. "Terrorist/freedom fighter turned private detective" was a very interesting plotline. "Private detective turned terrorist" was not.
Good point. Makes me wonder how good Season 2 coulda been if they stuck to the 2nd book... Imperialist mercenary turned xenoarchaeology treasure hunting commando. That would stand on its own for a movie adaptation even without the whole sleeves concept. Like an offworld Indiana Jones... I guess that would just be Prometheus tho huh

Honestly, it feels like they skipped a season. You get left off with a massive twist towards the end of season 1, Kovacs making a hard choice, and then going off on a search - and season 2 picks up with 'OK. SEARCH OVER, AND HERE IS THAT THING YOU LOST FOREVER; BACK TO BEING A TERRORIST'. Like, WTH? A season of him doing the actual searching, and some kind of build-up to him being like 'oh, yeah. I remember why I hate this system. I was right about everything, I should lay the ground work for the return of the Envoys'. Zero build-up to a complete change in both plot and writing styles. Such a waste.

Yes, I'm salty about season 2.

I'm still salty they turned the Envoys into hippie Jedi wannabes instead of the terrifying black ops commandos they were in the original novel.

Firstly I need to say the 1st series stood out for so many reasons fantastic enjoyable exciting intriguing .Actors and actresses alike were believable, plot was always throwing up surprises and we warmed very much to our own characters within the show. The lead Male held great presence. The lead female had such depth and showed true professionalism for the role .....could not wait for season 2. Here's my honest humble opinion. They added a practically new cast with few exceptions increased the performances of newer members of the initial show and for me personally, totally lost all the magic mystique and interest I had. I have to add I wouldn't even watch the 3rd series even if Netflix decided to show it. True shame of this isn't in my opinion that it was shelved more importantly the makers made a massive ( artistic choice of a new direction within the series) or whatever the case is . And completely removed any real enjoyment I had for the series. If they went back to the original actors etc and followed from there it wouldn't have been the outcome we now see.

The 1st season was beyond awesome. It was sexy alluring, action packed and had a fantastic story. It kept me going from the 1st sleeve till the last or end.

Rating 10/10

But the 2nd season lacked feeling, crappy acting, huge damn time skip (why - dont care how the time skip went in the book) No-one likes it, the story was dry. Again the acting was horrible and was sloppy. On top of that your lead actor is a little *****. An your director is a racist complainer just look at her instagram. I watched the 2nd season out of boredom. I should have stuck with my boredom.

1/10

Well I'm into the Expanse now. Goodbye Netflix hello Prime.
I sincerely hope that you get a benefit from watching prime . I found most free films on there unfortunately where like b films you wish you hadn't spent your quality time watching. It's a tough call essentially because we all take different elements within entertainment that we enjoy. Loved bosch the crime detective. ?

Funny that you mention racism....I won't. I did feel though essentially your review was snappy ,in a very good way and definitely enjoyed your points. I felt that they destroyed a first class top end show , and offered a truly unimaginative and poorly acted second series. Most surprising was how delusional they appeared about how they had brought out some great elements of the characters ?

Tells you something about viewers, doesn‘t it ?

This is a major shame as I absolutely loved Altered Carbon. Preferred the first season but the second one was also very good.
Not being funny I would love to hear what you enjoyed about season 2

I watched and enjoyed it. Wasn‘t as good or impressive as season 1, but still interesting.
Don't worry, they already hit the nail on the head. The 2nd season was made to be too diverse, I mean a coloured person playing the lead role? Shock horror!
/sarcasm

I was excited to hear netflix picked up Lucifer for a 6th season. Even if that is the last season, 6 years isn't a bad run for a show, and I was disappointed that it was canceled so it's a nice surprise that it will get another season even if it's the last one. I named my cat Lucifer because I love that show...and because it annoys religious morons like my father. ??
Your father was probably brainwashed as a young child to be superstitious. I know I was. There are moments when a deep thought intended to scare me pops up. All we need to believe in is truth. It's not in any organized religion beyond the basic tenets of all faiths, essentially paraphrased ten commandments which is a sound foundation of how to live, especially if one is a sociopath and has no moral compass. Religion provides clueless people with a roadmap on how to not be evil.

Due to my early brainwashing, I would not name a cat Lucifer, Luci possibly.

That's exactly it too. My father can't comprehend how one can have morals if they don't believe in his god. He asked me what's to stop someone from raping and killing if they don't believe and I was flabbergasted. I told him that if you need a religion to tell you those are wrong, and the promise of a reward to do the right thing, then you aren't a good person, you're a sociopath. He didn't particularly like that answer. ??
