Yeah I get that it's lackluster - but here in NZ you can buy it for about US$35 over msrp at the moment ( with GST on top 15% tax) 3060ti is nearly double and a 3060 66% more - probably the least you can spend to game ok
That 5700 was a good deal on special before covid

What the hell happened to AMD? They used to champion the budget market but now they peddle extremely expensive graphics cards with poor features and at the mercy of their inferior drivers in some drunk attempt to take on Nvidia.

Its like Honda releasing a specced up Civic and hoping it competes with a Ferrari.

And in the meantime all the people who used to buy the $200 AMD specials (RX 480 etc) are stuck still holding their cash and considering just buying a console and being done with PC gaming.

This product is an actual joke. Do not buy it, go on ebay get a second hand RTX 2070 or something for less. It will be faster and have Nvidias better features and wont be gimped by AMD cheaping out on the 8X connect.

I was in a similar boat - I went with a 3080 about $225 over USD$925 sales tax on top - seemed the best deal - next was a 6800 , 6700 - didn't make sense paying 30% less to get a 3060TI - and just about no one is getting msrp in NZ at the moment .
Am I a sucker - did not affect any other spending ?- did not feel any poorer - did not miss the money . Made no sense taking the 2060 from my m/c - as this PC was for whole family.

What a terrible bunch of cards AMD is releasing. They are clearly behind Nvidia in features, popularity and arguably performance yet they think releasing dogshit expensive cards is gonna make them look favourable. All this because they know gamers have no choice.

This gives you an insight of what AMD would be like if they were dominant like Intel was. They would pretty much be the same as Intel.

Any company would have done that. This is what people don't seem to get, when they hope for AMD/Intel/Nvidia to "die"

AMD has raised prices many times over the years, and then cut prices when Intel/Nvidia came back, which they always do.

I remember paying 549 for my 7970 on release back in early 2012 for example. GTX 680 launched at the same price and AMD cut price.

This what AMD does (and should be doing). Keep prices high when they have something decent and lower prices, when Intel and Nvidia makes the comeback. AMD is the small player and probably always will be. They need to have a good value proposition or most people won't bother buying AMD.

Ryzen 5600X is almost twice the price of Ryzen 3600 and AMD did not bother doing a 5600 Non-X. Same thing. I bet AMD lowers CPU prices when Alder Lake comes out. Rumours say that i5-12400 beats 5600X, and that i5-12400 is probably going to be 150-200 dollars like i5-11400 (which disrupted Ryzen perf/value)

PCIe x16 is a reference to the number of physical lanes, not directly aimed at being "double AGP". Apparently you missed the 5500xt entirely two years ago?

To answer your question: AMD is trying to cheap out wherever possible, by coincidence this can kneecap performance on their opposition's platform since intel is still mostly PCIe 3.0. I'm sure that's entirely coincedental.

You took me a little too literally. Yes, I know that it's not "double AGP", it's much faster than that but AGP was limited to 8 lanes which made its obsolescence guaranteed. Seriously though, how much could AMD be saving with this stupid idea? Not enough to matter, that's for sure, especially with video cards being the prices that they are.
