AMD Ryzen 7 8700G Review: Most Powerful Integrated Graphics

this. I stopped gaming this year and may pick it back up in a couple of years, but I'm making my way through some old games, like Witcher 2 and 3, AC Valhalla being the newest AAA game. I want to get rid of my monster tower furnace PC and replace it with something small and physically attractive that can fit on my desk nicely. I just need enough compute and pep for .NET development and the occasional YouTube video edit I'm a happy camper.
You can definitely get a great enthusiast level PC in an itx build without throttling. I have a 7800X3D with noctua d15 and 4090 suprim liquid in a h210 case.

If you want a nice mini itx case with 240mm radiator clearance I recommend checking out the Fractal Terra mini itx tower. You can probably get 80% of the performance at half the premium with 5800X3D and upcoming 4080 super in an itx build. If you need more cores the 5950x fell to $379 on Amazon. Today you don't need to compromise on performance with formfactor. If you going for a budget build you can scale it accordingly. If we extrapolate AMD'S pricing of hardware from previous cpus and gpus they tend to come down in price significantly over time. Eg 7800X3D and 7900xt are about 20 to 25% cheaper since launch.

Interesting review TechSpot but ultimately disappointing. I've been waiting for these APUs for a new build but as you say they just don't make sense. Surely an APU should be a budget offering. At what price would the 8700G make sense? It seems a bit unbalanced with the CPU much more powerful than the iGPU. Is that because it's a monolithic design? Would a chiplet design allow it to be sold at a more realistic price? Who do AMD expect to buy this? So many questions.

I speculate that it's another case of marketing taking the lead here. I thought they'd left that behind when they transitioned to Ryzen. I could be wrong, but I think the idea is to market the CPU as a solution for a gamer that can't afford a top notch GPU when they make their initial build. Very basic graphics performance initially and a massive improvement when they finally get the mid-top tier GPU. The big question IMHO is how many gamers are in that camp? Enough to release the 8700G? Hard to say, but I doubt it...

This will be perfect for a mini-itx box for home media centre with all emulators set up. Also perfect for newer isometric strategy/rpg/war/tactical-stealth games.

The uplift against 5700G is great, but the price isnt right. For 300+ they should offer more graphics performance (beyond Xbox series S), for around 200 may fit smoothly on daily drivers with some gaming sprinkles. Probably is a great piece of silicon for tiny form factors.

I think the only real application for this is for people that want to build NUC size PCs that can game a little bit. I could see this paired with a vesa mountable mini-ITX pc onto a monitor and it'll be the most gaming capable all in one. There is a small niche market for that.
