AMD Ryzen 7 9700X vs. Ryzen 7 7700X: 45 Game Benchmark

Insane that MS gimped AMD performance across the board by 10%!!!
Insane that you got 1 like for that comment. They didn't gimp it by 10% - they increased it by 10% over their older version of Windows. Their update to Windows from 23H2 to 24H2 brought about 10% better performance. KUDOS to M$ I'll think you're find.

Some of those improvements too good to believe especially considering these 24H2 changes are meant for CPUs which have a expanded branch prediction capacity aka Zen 5 so how come Zen 4 is getting better improvements. Puzzling
The most likely explanation is that this isn't really a case of "AMD works better now" but "CPU gaming performance overall was severely gimped by Windows 11 until now." We even see big gains on the Intel chips. I'm glad that this update was pushed out and works, but tbh this is just another reason for me to move towards gaming on Linux as Windows machines get worse and worse for it...

What about windows 10? Is Ryzen performance still limited? So we need to have windows 11 24h2 to benefit from new speed boost?

@TechSpot, since the performance update has been pulled earlier to 23H2, perhaps an article update to prevent confusion is in order.

There are two items here:
1) AMD is always too optimistic marketing their cards and CPUs, following Intel’s path (which is not good)

2) AMD is probably testing the 7000 with old drivers and windows and the 8000 with the latest and greatest. Either way, the Zen 5 seems to be more of an improvement on Performance/watt than of the performance overall.

3) for gaming the 3D versions will always be the best and I would rather but now a discounted 7800x3D than a new 9000 series.

Either way, always better AMD than Intel.

I altered some Registry Settings in Windows 10, to turn off Mitigations for Spectre. Whould this have the same effect as this Windows-Update?

How is the power consumption of these CPU's in Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100 update versus Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631? To me this looks like either overclocking of the CPU's, a reduction in graphical quality or these CPU's have been intentionally gimped in Windows until now.

I suspect this issue is a remnant of the Spectre vulnerability mitigations. Spectre was using branch prediction to inject malicious code and some software mitigations were put in place. On later versions of the cpus these vulnerabilities were supposedly addressed at hardware level. Maybe the software mitigations were still in place needlessly affecting the branch prediction performance. I find it hard to believe that someone just found a magic trick to bring more performance to the table, but removing a known obstacle is more likely.
It might as well be so. But wouldn't that kind of info and decision be Breaking News all over the Web?

As I am not gamer, I have an AMD 5600G in my desktop. Given that this enhances Branch Prediction, could this update increase the general (CPU) performance of my basic rig a bit?

Mindblowing! That much performance kept under the rug for all this time. Simply unlocked with a Windows update, wow.

Let's one guess how much performance is destroyed by imature drivers, bad game design and unoptimized OS. Consumers are constantly upgrading CPUs and GPUs because everybody else in this value chain of the gaming industry is focusing on fast bucks and fast rollouts. And every company basically cooks alone and the consumer (at least in PC Land) is forced to eat the conglomerate at home. Imagine the money saved if the software would be working just right with the hardware. We would be happy campers with old PC rigs, I.e. with Zen2 and RDNA2- Like those PS5 folks ;)
The sad truth is that Microsoft will never fully support AMD hardware. Does not matter how good or bad AMD products are/can be. I would like to see compatible games tested in Linux where AMD are fully supported. Not saying Intel or AMD is bad, I just want to see what happens when the OS is AMD Favored. I might be surprised and Intel beat AMD or the other way around.

For me, I just wake up everyday and wonder if MS can do anything right. Everything that MS can do Linux do better but that is just my point of view and I am a minority. What I like about Steve and Tim of hardware unboxed is they are not biased and have honest opinions. Then you get userbenchmark that craps on AMD and they claim HU testing are in accurate....

Give Microsoft 6months, the code will break just before the launch of Windows 12 MAGA Make Amazing Gaming Again
