AMD's RDNA 5 graphics cards tipped to arrive in late 2027

Rumor mill: Given the state of the graphics card market, it feels like we'll be waiting forever to see next-generation GPUs. But according to a popular leaker, AMD will launch its RDNA 5 lineup in the second half of 2027 – so the first cards could be here in less than 12 months.

The information comes from Kepler_L2, who has a long history of correctly predicting graphics card releases. The leaker previously said RDNA 5 would land in 2027. Now, the timeframe has been narrowed to the second half of the year.

Writing on the AnandTech forums, Kepler_L2 said Team Red's next-generation cards could be unveiled at Computex 2027 at the earliest, though they're more likely to be announced later that year.

Computex 2027 starts on June 1. That'll be 2 years and 3 months since the RDNA 4-based Radeon 9000 series launched in March 2025. The gap between the Radeon RX 7000 series and RX 9000 cards was 2 years and 2 months, and it was 2 years and 25 days between the Radeon RX 6000 cards and RX 7000. So, the timing fits.

AMD might also depart from its usual habit of launching the higher-end cards first. Previous reports point to the mid-range AT2 GPU arriving in 2027, with the rest of the RDNA 5 family – including the rumored flagship AT0 and lower-end AT3 and AT4 chips – following in 2028.

Kepler_L2 also responded to a question about RDNA 5's potential use of the rumored 4GB GDDR7 memory chips, which are expected to be mass produced in the next two years along with 6GB GDDR7 chips. The leaker believes that 4 GB GDDR7 won't be used for next-generation consumer parts, suggesting they'll be reserved for AI-focused and other enterprise products.

Another unanswered question is the all-important price of the cards. Thanks to the memory crisis, most mid-range GPUs no longer carry mid-range prices, while flagships have reached second-hand car levels. There are opposing opinions about whether things will get better or worse over the next few years, but it's hard to be optimistic.

As for when Nvidia will launch what is presumed to be the RTX 6000 series, another leaker, Kopite7kimi, says it won't be here until 2028. And don't expect to ever see any RTX 5000 Super cards.

I have news too : I won't have enough money to burn on even a middle-class next-gen GPU until at least 2029, at this pace. 😅

Who cares at this point if they come or not.

Only thing that matters now is the price. Not the make believe prices either, real low cost high performance GPUs

Doubt I'll upgrade my GPU this time around. Maybe it's just me, but games has become very unoptimized and demanding for no reason.

Find most new games underwhelming and playing older games now. Besides still have a backlog that will last me the rest of my life.

Micron and hynix stock fallen 10% today because of CXMT breakthrough in RAM production. There is a small hope for the prices getting a bit more acceptable.

I got the 9070xt last year. I will probably upgrade if they will provide a high end card, if the price won't get too crazy. Hope cxmt will continue their progress on that.

We can't buy CMXT ram in the US because our glorious leader says we can't but maybe relieving the pressure in other countries will get passed onto us. Although basically everyone has signed multi year deals locking in high ram prices so we still might get stuck with a dumpster fire.

If the rest of the world be able to buy the cmxt, then the availability from other producers will be better in US of A as well, hopefuly leading to better prices there. I think it will get better after mid of 2027. And if your glorious leader gets the reality check in coming months (he probably won't realise it anyway) it could get better there... but yeah, it wont get much better unless you vote differently next time...

China is the largest consumer of DRAM, not the US. Then there is the rest of the world to consider.

Yea the US is a quarter of the globes consumer spending but china takes the other three quarters’ demand with CXMT and the big 3 will be begging to give their RAM away.

This is why they are playing up the fearmongering over their “advanced super AI” driving demand beyond 2030, they all know the impending doom that will hit the moment demand lessens.

It's not consumer demand that has DRAM prices going crazy, it's datacenters who are buying hardware with other people's money. All forms of hardware are down in the consumer market. Phones, TVs, cars, PCs, ect. All of them use DRAM. Micron almost exclusively makes HBM now. The CEO said something interesting in an interview last week and that while they have presold over 70% of their capacity for 2027 they expect demand to start dropping in 2028

Just in-time for AMD to drop the high end RDNA5 GPU's, does that mean we might see some reasonable prices perhaps? I can live in hope for now.

Maybe, I'm actually ordering a 9070xt by black Friday regardless of price. I already put off upgrading for a year and I'm not going to wait another year. My 6700xt/58X3d combo is starting to show it's age. I'm actually surprised that a 10 year old CPU is holding up as well as it is. AM5 would be a "nice to have" thing but the 6700xt is getting out of hand, I've had it for too long and it was supposed to be a bandaid solution for my 1080ti dying during COVID. And the 9070xt is $400 under the 5070ti, let's see how that lasts

Ok, not sure why you felt the need to clarify this, we all know where the demand is coming from.

CXMT is also making HBM. CXMT will end up replacing the big 3 in consumer devices the world over, and just making HBM won’t be sustainable as the Chinese get into that market too.

I'm as well on am4, and decided to jump to am6 when the time comes. 5700x3d is still too good to throw away.
and I recommend sapphire nitro. it is really excellent.
