Federal officials said consumers are now able to place their home and mobile telephone numbers on a free, national "do not call list" of households that do not want to receive telephone sales calls, by logging on to Donotcall.gov or calling 1-888-382-1222.

Telemarketers who call numbers on the list after Oct. 1 will face penalties of up to $11,000 per call, as well as possible lawsuits from consumers and state attorneys general.

Now all we need is the ability to add our addresses to a "do not spam" list of e-mail addresses and everything will be cool!

Reminds me of a small "lecture" made by a young american about the cultural difference between Australia and US. I was suprised to hear that americans receive calls of more 9 a day from these telemarketing ppeople. Very nasty indeed.

Y'n'W...dont worry, youll get your chance; when the telemarketers get the boot from the US they will move their operations down under.
