Apple and Google join forces to develop Covid-19 contact tracing system

I claimed no magic at stores, instead just use common sense. Cut 2 trips a week to every 2 weeks, then you've cut your exposure by 75%. Add to that handwashing, physical distancing, masks. All cut exposure further.

Healthy people of all ages have died from this, how do you separate them out beforehand? What's your criteria for limiting a small percentage of the population before you know who is actually susceptible? You will always be limiting people who won't get sick and exposing people who will get sick. And if you make a pick and choose policy of this, you will anger a lot of those people.
you do realize the reporting on the deaths is terrible. if you look at the rate of pneumonia since covid started reporting the deaths has fallen in half .. so are people dying from covid? or pneumonia . they are changing many of the deaths from what they would have died from to a new cause saying its covid.

Do you not understand how many people die every few minutes? This is a drop in the bucket. It's horrible, but there are so many undocumented viruses and disease that get grouped as general known ones when people die. Do you really think the economy should be shut down for the minor amount of deaths when the gov't gladly sells and taxes Alcohol which kills 3 million in the world per year? 100k for Covid 19 world wide in 6 months (that we know of). The media has pulled the wool over your eyes.

I see end stage cancer patients 5 days a week. This 'pandemic' is NOT worth shutting the world down.

Yes, let's' social distance at the store 6 feet apart in a grocery store where we all touch the same door getting in, the pin pad, let alone cash, the same cashier, the same products, the same cart and the same door getting out.

Imbeciles. This has been around far longer than reported. "But the media says we have to like, flatten the curve man". Too late, the amount of those infected will never be known but I assure you, this is NOTHING, absolutely, NOTHING, compared to a real outbreak.

The old, extremely young and those with weak immune systems die? YOU DON'T SAY.

I'll get the popcorn when old people start shooting kids who cough on them in public

Self defense, pure and simple!

Really?

Why are hospitals overrun by this drop in the bucket?

Is everyone faking their illness?

Please tell us more.....
We can invite you to preach at an old folks home

Do you work in healthcare like I do? If not, please, put on your glasses.

That said, those who are old and likely to get sick need to be cautious. Does a featherweight fight Tyson on his first match?

Be realistic. The 'common cold' is dangerous. There are so many variations of it. Yet we are understanding and deal with it year by year despite it's mutations. We don't have a cure nor vaccine for it, we just understand that it is a threat and is expected.

Please, for the sake of everyone and this economy, stop being blind when you have eyes that work and a brain that functions.

Because they're dying from covid, that's how death reporting works. If you die from pneumonia, they also record the bug you died as a result of. In this case, the pneumonias are begin caused by covid.

Have a look at the flu deaths this year, they're also drastically down for 2 reasons: dyign from covid and physical distancing.

EXACTLY! This virus (CARS-China Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is a new strain of a corona virus, which is similar to Ebola, SARS, MERS. Unless you are elderly, have an underlying health issue, or very young, the MAJORITY of people will have "a cold" or "the flu" and, typically have little to no symptoms.
But, the "scare the crap out of people, so we can more easily control them" crowd has everyone running out and buying up all the toilet paper (for a respiratory virus), bread, sanitizing wipes etc.
Morons & sheep, that's what we've become.

Ebola ! Ebola! you really think the average person will just shrug it off? - Do you actually know the reason it's not a big problem- 1 it's not airborne & 2ndly is brutal - before vaccinations it would kill about 50% and even if you survived your internals were crap . One of the problems with Covid 19 is a lot of carriers show no symptoms- like someone carrying HIV for 10 years infecting others .

Basically try and have a curiosity for the knowledge before you rant - I would give up all my wealth instead of getting Ebola - it's a horrible illness with some patients bleeding externally & internally

If folks like you actually could follow the rules then Covid 19 would fade ie that any infected person infects on average less than 1 other person. Like we need the everyone to have less than 2 kids to decrease the world pop.

I think you mean dying with covid-19. Dr. Brix even stated during one of the daily briefings.

Watch this guy, takes all of 11 min if you watch to the end, it is factual, not hair on fire conspiracy bull.

You can watch Dr. Brix's response to the question about "death with covid" at this tweet, which is a cut from Fox New's broadcast of that particular daily briefing.

Make of it what you will.

Sorry, SARS and MERS are not similar to Ebola. That's a completely different disease. Common flu, COVID-19, SARS and MERS are all Coronavirus. While Ebola is something else, similar to the Marburg virus, and it's one of the deadliest diseases of all times.

MERS is second, it's a diseases spread among Saudis and Middle-Eastern immigrants. MERS is also Corona, but about 10 times deadlier than COVID-19. One more reason not to accept the Middle-Eastern immigrants.

SARS is a lot weaker than MERS and has killed less people than MERS, but is still stronger than COVID-19. It's questionable whether the virus in Iran, Italy and Spain is COVID-19 or SARS. Because it's pretty clear it hit them a lot stronger than anyone else.

THAT is speculative and has not been proven conclusively. Seeing how forthcoming the media has been with the truth of the matter, this too will prove to be nothing but hot air.

What exactly is speculative? That someone can spread the virus?

As I understand it Apple and Google just build the API for connecting with smartphones around you. The applications that would use the API could be open coded so privacy concerns would not be that bad. The idea is that all the data about you being near other people (actually your phone being near other people's phones) is registered and encrypted on your phone, and opened with your permission only when you are diagnosed in order to warn others that might be infected (by you, or you were infected from them).

I think all the people that worry about their privacy here should worry more about their health and about other privacy issues that are not related to this app.

Good, I don’t like invasion of privacy at all. But il take it over been locked in my own home. The economic fallout from this lockdown will be far more devastating than the virus itself. Just to note, in Italy COVID19 appears on 12% of death certificates, almost 9 other people die in Italy every time someone dies who has tested positive for COVID19.

At some point our leaders will face the tough decision of allowing people back to work and in doing so sacrificing the chances of the vulnerable.

But it makes sense, right now we are destroying the futures of our children in order to protect the vulnerable, 90% of which are over 70 and already sick.

Well, those who would trade privacy for safety deserve neither.

That said, techspot really should have just embedded the one whitepaper they link to (it's like 3 slides). They way it's designed appears to have privacy in mind; if you don't install whatever health care app, nothing happens (it appears there is in fact nothing at all "built into the OS" as the article says, it relies on interoperable apps over bluetooth low energy.) When apps installed, it generates a randomly generated unique ID (and would rotate this ID every so often, so there's no trying to go back months or years to track someone with it.) When nearby other phones, they exchange unique IDs over bluetooth low energy. If someone gets covid, they mark in the app they have covid and it sends to some withe that that unique id is a covid carrier. The other user's phones download a list of infected unique IDs, and warns the user if they were near any of them. That's it; no location tracking, no HIPPA violation (since it relies on the user to put the flag in their phone), it doesn't tell you WHO you were near who had Covid, per the description it gets just enough info to know if you've been near someone infectious and literally nothing else. Remember, the US gov't might not give a crap about privacy but the EU gov'ts generally still do, and this is intended to meet EU standards as well.

I refuse to use facebook and the likes due to it's lack of privacy but (per the description in the PDFs linked) fine the privacy controls in this app fully acceptable.

I don't want anyone or anything "tracking" me.

If necessary, take off your smartwatch and smartphone and leave em both home.

Pay cash.

Cover your face to avoid face tracking.

My privacy belongs to me.

Too late, you are being tracked if you are online, at least might get something back for it. Lot of data shared is the data you opt-in for, also a lot of the times its just metadata such as usage statistics, nearest location to your IP box etc.

If you are so worried about this nonsense called "privacy" maybe its time to live remotely in the mountains of Narnia and stop using internet. Oh and no your VPN is only hiding location, which is irrelevant and unless you are tunnelling you can easily be found if you do naughty things.

It's too funny when people that are posting ONLINE are moaning about privacy.

Privacy however is more worrying in the concept of what Elon Musk has said on Joe Rogan podcast and concepts Westworld S3/Minority report have shown. Although, those concerns are still decades away probably.
