Apple on Thursday announced that Jeff Williams has been named chief operating officer, a position that has remained vacant since Tim Cook relieved Steve Jobs of chief executive duties in 2011.

Williams joined Apple way back in 1998 as the company's head of worldwide procurement. In 2004, he was promoted to vice president of operations and since 2010, the veteran has overseen Apple's entire supply chain operations. Apple said Williams played a key role in its entry into the mobile phone market and continues to supervise development of the Apple Watch.

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, will be expanding his duties as he'll now also oversee the App Store across all platforms.

What's more, Johny Srouji will be joining the executive team as senior vice president of hardware technologies. Up to this point, he has served as vice president of the same division which handles development of batteries, application processors, storage controllers and silicon design. Srouji led the development of Apple's first custom-designed SoC, the A4.

Apple is also bringing in outside help. Tor Myhren, who has served as chief creative officer and president of Grey New York, will be joining the leadership team as vice president of marketing and communications. Myhren will be replacing Hiroki Asai who is retiring after 18 years in graphic design and marketing communications roles with Apple.

Is at least this guy straight or is it too much to hope for from Apple these days?
What all the flap about, "insufficient diversity in the workplace" these days, I find it hard to imagine you could even hire a white male if he weren't gay...

I have known many gay / lesbian people in my life and they are very often the most wonderful people you're ever going to know.
That is just ever so special. To Paraphrase Malthus, "there's no stopping a liberal idea whose time has come".

BTW, the term is, "fabulous", not "wonderful".

At Apple gay is the new straight.
Now if we could only convince the Chinese to clamp down on the flow of spare babies to gay couples, that would once and for all, put an end to pseudo-nepotism at Apple.

Not to mention the current managerial staff would die out in due time, with no heirs, or their assigns, per stirpes.

Are you joking? I'm surprised at the intolerance on these forums..

It doesn't make a bit of difference if they're gay or straight. Not one part of it matters in the business world.
I'm surprised at the tolerance level of society these days allowing you to say that. It is evidence of just how sick we have become. But you are right, it's a moral stand point not one of business.

.
Yeah, I know what you mean. All the, "some of my best friends are, > insert minority cause here <, hipster liberals annoy the living crap out of me.:p

After all, what is the best way to fight intolerance.........(got it figured out yet?).... Why, with your own intolerance of the intolerant, of course.

I didn't bring up the topic but yeah, you shouldn't discuss your feelings or opinions on matters such as this on these forums... but you're wrong about sexual preferences not making a bit of difference in the business world, it does, in a massive way.
