I have a fan failure on the motherboard, but I'm not sure what the fan is for. It's the silver one so I'm assuming it is for the chipset. Do I need to fix it?
Without the fan the chipset is likely to overheat when you stress the computer. If it overheats too much it could kill the motherboard. You may try contacting ASUS as I believe I heard that they would "give" users a replacement fan if the user would pay shipping. If that is no longer the case, you could replace it with a cooler like this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835108072
