Asus ASUS M3 Gen MB with Athlon 64 X2 4600? Possible?

  1. I wish to build a machine a 780G based Asus M3 Generation Motherboard. Gaming is not a requirement. Can I opt for a low end AMD Athlon Dual Core X2 4600 based processor with this mobo, instead of faster tri core based processors. (Reason is budget concerns) Will my type of config prove to be a gross mismatch between Mobo and processor? Will it hamper the machine's efficiency? or should i go for it

    Please suggest...

The X2 4600+ will work, no problem. Just don't try to upgrade to a 125W TDP CPU, like the X2 6400+, since the 780G mobos have design issues that will fry the MOSFETs either as soon as you put the CPU in or when you try to OC even a little bit.
