Black screen of death

Well when I start my computer it turns on the Alienware screen pops up then the screen goes black like it's trying to load it flashes once and then goes black again And it has a curser mark on the top left corner. I tried using F8 and it doesn't work at all hitting escape doesn't work the only thing that works is F10 and F2 is there anything I can do.

It would take some kind of voodoo to figure this out from the description (yes, there are wizards here, but I'm not one of them).

What is your system, what is your OS, when/how did problem start, how has it changed if at all, do you have an active up to date anti-malware, have scans been clean, when was the last time you cleaned the system, does it make any sounds, does it POST, can you get into BIOS, do you have a repair disk, have you tried it - when you give us something to work with we might be able to help - otherwise we will refer you to the three witches on the heath (they're real good at 'black screen of death' - just ask MacBeth).
