  1. Hi,

I don't have money to blow on great hardwares, so what was donated to me is what I'm working with - I'm fairly new to building a computer.

At the moment I have an asus asrock P4i45GV mobo socket 478. I have an intel penitum 4 processor 3.0Ghz - my question is about the ram.

The mobo takes DDR333 ram and forgive me - I'm still learning lol - what is p3200, p2700 etc mean? I have the idea it has to do with speed.

I will have to purchase the ram for this computer but I don't want to buy ram that can damage anything. If I can, I would also like to buy a good video card so any suggestions would be great!

here are the specs for the mobo if needed:

    General Features:
    Intel 845GV + ICH5 chipsets
    Socket 478
    mATX form factor
Supports up to 2 GB DDR RAM (non-ECC)
    Supports DDR 266/333 MHz
    Integrated AC97 C-Media 9739 audio chipset
    Integrated Intel Extreme graphics chipset
    Integrated 10/100 Fast Ethernet
    Two (2) IDE channels
    One (1) floppy disk channel
    20-pin ATX power connector

    Supported Processors:
Support for Socket 478 Pentium 4 & Celeron processors
    533/400 MHz bus speeds
    Supports HyperThreading

    Expansion Slots:
One (1) AGI 8x/4x slot (AGP compatible)
    Three (3) PCI slots
    One (1) AMR slot

    I/O ports:
    Two (2) PS/2 ports
    Four (4) USB 2.0 ports
    One (1) Parallel port
    One (1) RJ-45 Ethernet port
    One (1) Game port
    Mic in
    Line in
    Line out

One more question - after re-reading these specs - would it hurt the mobo to put in the p4? The specs say it can support up to 400Mhz but the p4 is 800Mhz?

    Thanks for any help!
