Burner Missing

A friend computer has the all to familiar problem of his optical drive disapearing from my computer. I know you can delete the upper and lower filters however i wouldn't trust him to do this and i'm not going to be able to do it for him. I know that there is a program that performs the fix for you out there that he could run i just cant remember what it was called and or i just cant find it. Anyone know of it and could point me to it?
