Cannot download Macromedia Flash

I am trying to install Flash8 but when I click to download it says Macromedia Flash installed but it has not and I need it apperantly for my studies so I can use the Universitys virtual Library. Other times a message says need to enable Active x but I follow the instructions but dont really know what to do. Please help Thanks
