Cannot view bottom 60% of many of my JPEG files

This is probably very common knowledge but I have missed out on it... Several JPEGs, when I use Picasa to view them (and I don't use other file viewers, so maybe this is a Picasa problem), the bottom 60% of the picture is grayed out. In teh thumbnail pane, I can see the whole thing- but I cannot print or view the whole picture.

Sounds like a setting as it does not happen to all my photos - thanks in advance for any help from any and all!

KB2836502 - Certain JPEG images cannot be displayed (Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1). This update addresses a problem whereby you can’t view certain JPEGs after installing update 270838 when the JPEG is a non-progressive compressed JPEG and its components span multiple scans. A restart is required after installation.
