Can't burn dvd

i can't burn dvd on my dvd-rom..can anyone help me to resolve my problem

How old is your optical drive? Into which computer is it installed? Has it worked in the past or have you never been able to burn DVD's? What burner software do you use? What is the brand and model of the DVD burner drive?
Optical drives are extremely fragile, easily getting ever so slightly out of alignment or having the laser burn out.
