Can't run MsConfig from Troubleshooter. Auto Repair runs every boot

Thanks for the replies, but I've created numerous USB boot "disks", and already attempted a clean install of Win10 using it, but it now gives me an error on reboot.

My only other option would be a reformat and installing Win10 to a blank drive, but that would void the warranty, so I'll just take it back to "BestBuy" on Monday and let them do it (they likely have their own pre-configured Recovery CD.)

Hi It sounds like you know what you're doing(y). It's very hard for me to post. You shouldn't have to reformat to reinstall windows.
I agree about taking it back to "Best Buy" It sounds like there may be other problems IMHO causing Windows not to install!

Win10 ISO copied to a bootable flash drive.
The info in the thread I posted avoids "bootable" usb or disc drives.
All you need is an iso extracted to a usb drive.
With a cmd prompt you simply start the setup.exe file.
Even Microsoft offers this advice.

But if you want to take it back to the store that's up to you.
Good luck. :)

Well, THAT was fun! And by "fun", I mean incredibly painful. :'(

With Windows no longer booting from the internal SSD at all, I went for broke risking voiding my warranty, and just told the Win10 installer to remove all existing partitions and install to a blank drive.

Windows 10 is now installed and running... kinda... but it's missing about 9 drivers (including the ones for the touch screen and audio in/out). The BestBuy website only had a driver for the WiFi (which I did not need b/c Windows installed it), and Windows Update did not find any of the missing drivers online, so it looks like I'm still going to have to bring it back to the store Monday for "repair".

I'm going to contact Microsoft and make sure they know that their "Disk Cleanup" utility trashed my tablet and everything I've gone through just to get it back to normal (and then comes the annoyance of reconfiguring and setting everything back the way I had it.)

Ugh! (Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know what happens next week.)

I know what you mean.

When you install it, it wipes the old OS out automatically.

Did you go into device manager for getting drivers ?

At least you got it installed. (y):)

Thanks for your update. Very interesting! May I ask how you know you have 9 missing drivers? I have been using "Disk Cleanup" for ages. It never caused me any problems, but I'm smart enough to realize that W10 affects users differently, so I'm not doubting you when you say it caused you these issues.
Yes it's a pain reconfiguring and getting all your setting back. That's a very good reason to learn how to use a 3rd party image program like Macrium Reflect. If you learn how to create backup images on a regular basis, you will be fearless like me; knowing you can restore your devise back exactly like the day you created the image. I'm sure @DavidBailey will agree with me on that thought.
Please let us know how things go for you. I'm very interested in your problem. I may not be able to respond immediately, but I'll watch your thread and try to respond the best I can. I'll do my best to reply!

Yep. Macrium is good.
It has saved me a lot of headaches & money. :)

When I installed W10 Pro from the Windows 10 update assistant & by using the setup.exe I got all needed drivers installed.

EDIT--- Did you check to see if W10 was activated ?

Tried that. Didn't work. The ONLY thing that worked was deleting all exiting Partitions.

And the Device Manager is exactly how I attempted to update the drivers. :(

This afternoon, I will try an app like "Driver Booster" to see if it finds anything.

Thanks for the reminder.

Yup, it's activated. Before I did the reformat, I checked o nline and it said MS keeps every registered users hardware ID's on their server, so when I reinstalled, it read all that info off the Net.

Interesting discoveries in this mess. Not just the Activation, but oddly, Windows saved some of my preferences online (not sure where. I never did setup OneDrive on this tablet.)

It saved my clock settings the way I like it and even my Wallpaper (entire slideshow & timings), but it did NOT save my Start Menu settings or Desktop icons. Odd.

Hi @Mugsy It seems your issue is very common. Here's link from MS Community. I would seriously think about returing your devise.

PS After I read the MS link. It looks like a windows update my be causing your problem. Let us know what you think!
Hey, that's really interesting. Thanks.

The difference though is that I was *about* to upgrade when this occurred. :)

But the drivers not being present in the latest release... that is *definitely* what I'm experiencing now. Thx.

I installed IObit's free "DriverBooster" this morning and it found 3 of the 6 (it was only 6, not 9) missing drivers. But the big two... sound & touchscreen... were not among them.

I went ahead and downloaded DriverMax, but it didn't find any more drivers.

I prefer DriverBooster though. More feedback (file sizes, download speed & ETA) that DriverMax seems to lack. Looks nicer too. And apparently just as effective. ;)

God Bless the Internet.

After your discovery of others reporting missing drivers, I decided to see if anyone had found the missing drivers, and someone uploaded ALL of them for my precise tablet here. :D

I now have my touchscreen and audio working again. With all the drivers now working, it's just a matter of reinstalling & reconfiguring all of my old software. No need to bring this tablet back to BestBuy. :D

Thanks to All for the help. Case closed. :)
