I am having a problem with The Onboard sound card. After an hour of use or less i get this popping noise and then when i change a setting it goes back to normal and repeats over and over. I updated the driver and still no luck with it changing whatsoever, when I had Vista Ultimate (My hardrive wiped) it wouldn't happen it would play fine hours and hours on end without a single flaw. What could be the cause of this problem? And It aint the motherboard otherwise it would've happened with Vista. Thank you for your help :)

check first if your current sound driver is compatible with your current OS version.
otherwise it could be a driver issue.

Yeah it is and i used the driver tht came with the CD and the newest one, People rekon tht its the AMD Cool and quiet but i beg to difer bcoz wen i turn it off still no difference and i would like to fix it coz its really annoying! Thanx for replying...:( No1 really duz

Oh and I have a Asus M2N-Sli Motherboard, AMD AM2 5000+ and the onboard sound is the CMedia 6501 current driver version 5.12.08.1803

tune down any overclocking if you have.

have you tried other speakers as well?

what OS version do you use now?

likewise the model of your motherboard?

EDIT: ok, you got in the board model first.

Umm overclocking- No
Operating system- Windows XP SP2
Tried Other Speakers- Yes, but still same problem

Hmm...yeah...sorry.cant load the page again.quite strange.(redirected to DELUXE).

just click the link again & just select the socket model & motherboard
model at the upper part of the screen of the page.& find the driver version
5.12.8.709 & 5.12.8.16 in AUDIO section.

Nar it doesn't fix the porblem :( Anything Else you can recommend? Is their ne software that will tell me if ther is a problem with the driver? I will search on the net for it, tell me if you hav nething else. Thanx neways

1. try to update your windows, after that, try the sound.

2. if didn't worked,un-install the sound driver & re-install it again.
(windows must be updated).

3. start > run > in the open box, type devmgmt.msc.
navigate to Sound, video & game controllers & if you
see yellow flags,it means you have a problem with the driver
or failed installation.

Nothing worked after i tried all of the following

1. try to update your windows, after that, try the sound.

2. if didn't worked,un-install the sound driver & re-install it again.
(windows must be updated).

3. start > run > in the open box, type devmgmt.msc.
navigate to Sound, video & game controllers & if you
see yellow flags,it means you have a problem with the driver
or failed installation.

Anything else i can do?

can you please run a dxdiag report?

start > run > at the open box type dxdiag.hit enter

a the directx diagnostic screen, lower part.
click save all informations.a report will be generated
in notepad.save the report & attach it to your next
reply.

are you sure you downloaded the correct driver?

take a look at this:

sound driver : Driver Name: c6501.sys
WHQL Logo'd: No

Sound Tab 1: The file c6501.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).

your hardware may not work properly if not digitally signed.

try this link for the sound driver :

http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/C-MediaCM6501_Audio_V5128709_V51281606.zip

Sorry for a late reply. It now says in the DXDiagnostics that it is WHQL'd I will test it out now see if it works. Thankyou i will reply back once i have thoroughly tested it :)

:( It still happens :( anything else i can do, or do i have 2 put up with it?Do U think i should try with the front port?

There is the M2N-SLI deluxe and the normal M2N-SLI n mine has the CMedia 6501.
Ne ideas as to why i still get static noises after a while of playback?

well i guess it only shows that your sound chip is compatible only in
vista drivers.

you can try borrowing a PCI sound card from a friend nearby if you
still opt to stay in XP.if the PCI sound card solves the issue then
your might consider purchasing an add-on card.not so expensive
now adays. :)

I think i will send a email to the C Media company and ask them to fix the driver problem :)
Hopefully it will work.

OHHH BTW I Forgot if i uninstall all sound drivers i use PnP and it works fine with that but will it let me use EAX etc.? And should i try manually install the drivers eg. goin to device manager and right clickin install drivers and manually get them.
At least i kno its the drivers :)
