Hi,

This seemed to be the best place to post this question.

I'm looking into building my own web hosting, mail server for home and an ftp server (partly for curiostity/knowledge benefits).

The cpu will be a Pentium D, 2GB of RAM. Are there any particular hard drives, or changes that anyone might suggest for the best possible performance whilst still being fairly cheap.

Thanks

Almost anything will do. If traffic is low, heck, you can use a laptop (I've done it many times).

The much bigger issue is your ISP connection. Your End-User License may have a
clause restricting running ANY server (they want you to purchase a Server connection).
With that clause, they can monitor port 80 (and others) or restrict them such that you
will not make services available to the Internet.

A second issue is your IP address and Domain Name. If you purchase a Domain Name,
then you need your ISP to update their DNS to include your system.
Without a Domain Name, you need a subscription for DynDNS.org
