"Conversation" alert behavior and Facebook integration

Hello people,
I'll elaborate on what the title says a bit.

The "Conversations" section as we now call it, is somewhat...unintuitive.
First, it doesn't give any alerts of any new PMs. Sure, the old JavaScript can be dangerous for security reasons, but something like the "Alerts" system that we have now will also do.
Secondly, bulk deletion can be a pain. I have to actually open individual messages to delete them (well, not delete them, but "leave the conversation"). How about a check-box like we used to have earlier? To reduce unnecessary clicks.

Now for Facebook integration.
As Bobcat earlier pointed out in another thread, Facebook is well known for security issues, and as Matthew once pointed out, also for crappy privacy policies. I don't know what others think, or if I should be saying this, but IMHO the integration is better removed. And with world powers poking their noses in everything from wallets to confidential business and private documents, I don't think that needs to be further explained to anyone whose aware of what's happening to the internet.

*EDIT: How about locking news older than 1 weeks or more? I've noticed old news threads cropping up (necro-bumping), and thereby cluttering the "recent" and "new" posts/threads field. I think it's already set to auto-lock by default though. Anyway, just a thought.

In a nutshell: 1) Is it possible to implement an alert system for private messages?
2) Is it possible to "disintegrate" from Facebook?

I second both suggestions.

In fact, I didn’t know the new software doesn’t give alerts for PMs. Does it at least send an email notifying about them?

As regards Facebook, I point out in another thread that Facebook & Co have been found to contain more harmful links than porn sites. Moreover, this integration seems to be implicated in the back arrow problem of Opera and Chrome.

More info on Facebook in this thread:

1) An alert system for PMs will be implemented soon.

2) This is a NON-ISSUE. The Facebook integration is not obligatory you don't have to use it if you don't want to and if you added it you can always unlink it in your account settings if you so desire. If you don't need it don't use it.

Thanks guys. :)

I've been thinking about asking for the alert system on conversations myself.

P.S.
I do miss the post count.

I assume you realize this, but for whatever it's worth, post counts are still visible by clicking on someone's name/avatar.

Right now conversations badges are already implemented in the forum. I'm working on integrating them with the rest of the site.

PM/conversations alerts working site-wide

If you find anything not working please let us know.

The Facebook integration has been temporarily disabled and I can confirm the issue from this thread is solved now:

As for my personal opinion on this (covers face) I think the Facebook integration should go (ducks)
Whenever I see "visit us on Facebook" or "like us on Facebook" either in a TV commercial or a Hotel elevator I die a little on the inside!
I don't know what it is but I just hate all this free promotion that Facebook gets!

These are just my 0.02SEK worth, which in no way represents the thoughts of the rest of Techspot staff (but I'm working on it :D)
