http://www.spiralfrog.com is supposed to be an up-and-coming free m3 site...ad-based. Can't download albums at a time...and so far, it only employs two of the four major music companies, but it's a start. Worth looking at for anybody that wants legit, free music.

limewire is used mostly for bad, so don't be suprised if these posts disappear. Sure there is legal music on limewire, but it is even worse than torrents for the percentage of legal material.

I'd suggest Last.fm for legal downloads, and also free streaming of a lot of name bands. Pandora.com doesn't have downloads, but they'll stream about anything you want.
