Blind Dragon said:I definitly think you should follow kimsland advice as well. There is a few things you should remove, then let's see if we can get combofix to work.
Remove bad HijackThis entries
- Run HijackThis
- Click on the System Scan Only button
- Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/...b/*http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/info/bt_side.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/...b/*http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/info/bt_side.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/btyahoo/defaults/su/*http://uk.search.yahoo.com/
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

- Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
- Click on the "Fix Checked" button
- When completed, close the application.
----------------------------------------------------------
Combofix
Caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop. Combofix is a very powerful tool so please do NOT do anything without instruction
- Download Combofix to your desktop.
- Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
- A window will open with a warning.
- When the scan completes it will open a text window. Please attach that log back here together with a fresh HJT log.
Combofix will automatically save the log file to C:\combofix.txt
Yeah, I have done that, if you look at that new ones that i posted, i will be gratefull!Blind Dragon said:Did you do this already then?
You did mention that you would try this.kimsland said:Habylab, this type of fault can be related to a faulty HardDrive (obviously) or data cabling
But, it is possible that even the Floppy drive and data cable can cause this strange behaviour. Therefore I would suggest to disconnect the floppy from the Motherboard.
Actually, also unplug any not required PCI devices (like addon Sound card or 56K Modem etc)
You may like to check (or replace) your Hard Drive (and/or Cdrom Drive) data cable(s)
Basically you need to get past this Dell logo and continue to somewhere (even Safe Mode)
By the way, detach any not required externals too, like printer so forth.
Try again
How do i check for a boot sector virus?xxdanielxx said:Hey I was reading this thread and wanted to add just 2 things.
1) have you tested the hard drive? if not download DFT from the link below and burn it onto a cd the same way as the memtest then boot off of the cd run a advance test and post back the code it gives you EX: 0x00
2) have you tested for a boot sector virus. If not test for one.
