Ive just built a new PC (2200 XP, Asus a7v8x mboard, ati radeon 9700 pro) , but it wont accept my 512 of DDR 333 ram. Ive tried 2 different brands and still it see's a fault, the rams been independantly checked and its fine. The motherboard tells me theres a fault with the ram, memory checkers find a fault with the ram and games crash when loading a new level but I cant, my friends and the shop cant find a fault in the ram. Im taking a hint that thees something else wrong, but what?
Any help would be fantastic as ive got a very expensive towel rail at the moment.

Maybe some of this info can explain the problem?

I'm not sure any of this is relavent since you are using DDR333 rather than DDR400

Yeah if its generic then that could be your problem, try running the Ram at 266mhz instead of 333

Thanks for all the repls, Im round a friends tonight and i hope to try different ram and mess about with the CAS timings (thanks bretty) to see if i can get a more stable machine. I have been using majour brand ramm but ill look into the reccomended brands for my system.
I dont really want to underclock the ram as it kinda ruins the whole point of having a faster ram even though the price difference is sometimes only a pound but at the moment ill settle for a game of hearts on my radeon 9700 if itll run.
Thanks for all your help.

Dank

The Solution but maybe not the root of the problem.
My machine worked fine with 2100 ram that id borrrowed off a mate and after talking to afew shops their genral concessus was to purchase quality ram. It kinda chaffed in the wallet department but scince id retured 2 other sticks and recieved a full refund I figured Id need some whatever the problem. Id been reading up on over clocking the ram and had rebuilt my machine just to make sure i hadnt got any problems if Istill had a problem
et voila.
My PC is finally up and running.
There was no mention on the ASUS website about which PC2700 ram to purchase but buying the good stuff seems to have done the trick.

Tahnks to all who replyed

Change the memory to bank 0 ... that helped for me .. if this doen't work .. set the memory timings to normal or safe ..

Some MoBos will only work with particular brands of RAM. Check the manufacturer web site. Also make sure the BIOS is set for CAS 2.5
