Default search location

When I right-click 'Start' in my WinXP, the SEARCH lists StartMenu as the default location, whereas, in another WinXp system there is a blank I.e. NO location is prompted. So it must be selectable - how would one change that default ?

Can you define a little better where you are seing the 'default location' you refer to? Here is a normal start menu with the prompt that pops out from hovering over the search option. What are you seeing, or what do you do next?

I go to 'Files and Folders', and there a default location for Search is prompted. That location is NOT the same on the different PCs I have access to, and I want to know what influences that variability.
