Delete the dial up?

I am currently helping a friend download his definitions through my high speed connection since his dial up service to do this obviously takes forever. I have a hangup in terms of being able to use the LAN connection on the laptop, because I cannot get it connected to my internet due to the dial-up setting asking to connect using the dial up service each time. I would like to install the updates simply with my high speed without having to completely removing the dial up properties. Is there some way to change or disable the dial up?

Yes in Internet Explorer's settings

Press Alt (in IE7) to show the IE Menu Bar
Click on: Tools-->Internet Options
Click on Connections Tab
Click on "Never Dial a connection"
Apply OK

All done

Do the above again when reverting back
Except this time select "Always dial"
