Dell C600 laptop booting problem

how do i wipe out the hard drive when all I can get on startup is f2, and f8 it wiil not let me reinstall or repair with the disk?

Enter BIOS and change the boot device order to:

1st DVD/CD drive
2nd Hard disk

BIOS needs to know to boot from the optical disc before trying to load Windows.

thanks, leeky how do i enter bios? I can ony get to f2 or f8 after welcome screen..
please step by step would be helpful. I have tried to reinstall and nothing tried to repair and i keep getting the message \windows\system32\config\system ..file missing or corrupt..

It will either be F2 or DEL (though it could be another F number), it will say on the main "DELL" screen, press *** to enter setup.
