OK, I didn't read the whole law,
That said, if this is an issue of standby current, all you really have to do, is kill the power to the surge suppressor and be done with it.
The imbeciles at our local power company put a commercial on TV, showing people that they should, "pull all the plugs from a power strip, to save energy". (REALLY). I guess nobody there was smart enough to figure out what the switch was for,.
As for the, "Energy Star" nonsense", while I guess it's viable in some capacity. Meeting those specs also f**ks up , say, an air conditioner, to the point where it won't even power up in the "cooling" (compressor running), mode..In the end, all an "Energy Star" rating amounts to, is a sales gimmick.
I get a kick out of the "energy saving modes" as well. With an air conditioner it only starts the machine when the temp gets above the set temperature around the machine. Which leaves you with the rest of the room hot, and a puddle of cooler air directly in the vicinity of the machine.
And then there's Intel's "miracle hibernate mode" (S-6), ignore a machine for a couple of days, and it won't wake up period, whether the PSU is "Haswell certified", or not.
Now they're trying to ban plastic bags at markets. Well, if people weren't so f**king lazy, they'd take them back to the stores for recycling, instead of letting them blow all over the streets or get into our rivers and oceans.
So, y'all can pump out all the "red state, blue state" bullsh!t you want, but the reality is, most people are filthy pigs, and actually do need protecting from themselves, just as responsible people need protecting from them.
