Do I need an HDMI mobo too, or just an HDMI video card?

Am I correct in assuming that an HDMI-ready video card takes care of it. I just want to be sure that I don't need an HDMI mobo too. Thanks.

No.

HDMI motherboard are basically onboard graphics with HDMI included. If you got an HDMI motherboard, it would be wasted becuase you are also getting a HDMI graphics card.

As you can see, HDMI motherboards have an in-built HDMI slot.

Thanks, CJ-real. That's what I assumed the situation was, but just wanted to make sure.

DVI-> HDMI gets you the video just fine, but in his case the hdmi off his video card will also carry audio, which is kind of nice.

that should be true, if the mobo supports the integration of audio+video. Not
all hdmi video out performs this level of integration.

That 8600GT does though, I checked the newegg link. You do need to connect the SPDIF off the sound card/onboard sound to the graphics card though.
