It turns out that the "old" McAfee WAS on my Computer. It was cleverly disguised as "McAfee Uninstaller" So I removed that program, and if the problem persists I will uninstall the "new" McAfee. I know that mfehidk.sys is not infected with malware, I have scanned all 3 files with MBAM. When I manually update the "new" McAfee, it updates successfully, rather than giving me the Spamkiller message, so that is a good sign.

Yep, old drivers are a real pain. Keep us uptodate if this has rectified tour issues. If you ever decide to go with better security software let us know.

All McAfee currently off of my computer, I believe. Although, in Program Files there is still a folder for McAfee, with Spamkiller inside of it. I believe that is from the "old" McAfee. I checked with RegCure, nothing published by McAfee is on the list. Now I wait and see if the BDOS returns.

Get rid of all things McAfee.

ok, No problems for about 2 hours now! Let's hope I have no more BSODs.

What will you replace McAfee with? Stay away from Symantec/Norton. Good $ antiviruses are Kaspersky and NOD32 version 3.0 (version 4 is newer but it has some kinks that need to be worked out). Both Antivir and Avast! have excellent free versions (I run the free Avast on two laptops and a second PC). They also have $ versions as well. I know Avast includes their malware program in the $ version.

Two excellent free firewalls are Online Armor and COMODO. I run the $ version of Online Armor.

Good anti-malware/spyware programs are are Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. SAS has a fee version that has resident protection but you must update manually. I run the $ version and love it.

I am a proponent, as well as many others, of the layered method meaning different security software from different manufacturers rather than one security suit.

I agree with you there. I will look into different security software. I will notify you if The BSOD comes back. thank you so much for your help.

Sorry, been out of state since early this morning and didn't get home until late tonight. Both errors are 0xD1 and both cite Unknown_Mdule which isn't any help.

Post your most recent minidumps since removing McAfee that you haven't attached yet.

Same as before. Did you uninstall all things McAfee including the file with Spamkiller in it?

0xD1 errors can also be caused by faulty or mismatched memory. But for the moment let's approach this from a different angle. Go to the Virus & Malware forum and read and follow the 8 Step sticky. When you complete the steps post the required three logs on that forum and you'll get excellent help.

We are rtrying to determine if your system has been compromised.

I just got 2 BSODs. They are attached. I ran MalwareBytes, all kinds of viruses on my computer, which I removed. I am following the other steps now. Where do I post these logs?

Avast scanned my hard drive and found an epidemic of viruses. 36, I believe. Trojans and all sorts of other bad stuff. they mostly infected something called "skynet." I did notice that at least one of the infections was in the drivers. I will finish the steps tomorrow, and run a through avast scan. Avast is great, so much better than McAfee. I am really impressed with it so far.
Edit: I believe Skynet may be one of those stupid introductory internet offers that came with the computer, but I am not sure. I use Comcast High Speed, which incidentally has been slow, probably because of the viruses.

As before, post them in the Virus & Malware removal forum here at Tech Spot. Make sure all three required logs are attached (as well as completing all the steps). It could very well be the reason McAfee was giving such problems was because it was compromised. Many viruses, etc. are specifically designed to shut down security software or at least cripple it to deny protection.

McAfee, as said before, isn't the best. But even the best of the best security softwar can be compromised by a person's online viewing habits.

Yes, Avast is a good one. And, yes, your internet will slow down because of infections. Some introductory offereings much like some so-called registry, driver, and security software are nothing more than slick malware in disguise.

The malware experts will help you with the virus / malware issues.
If you have further issues after they have given you a clean bill of health, then you can either pick up here or start a new thread, which ever is more appropriate at that time.

I am glad Route44 got you pointed in the right direction.
Good Luck.
