Drivers for compaq v6148ea?

I'm trying to install debian in a compaq presario v6148ea. Compaq does not offer support for anything but windows :suspiciou Where could I find the drivers?

By now I have the network card and the wireless working, but I have no sound, and i don't know to which extent the graphic card is being used to render what I see, I wouldn't like to put too much stress in the processor unnecessarily.

Any tips on finding the drivers, installing them or knowing the drivers I may need (I don't know the current situation about the graphics) are welcome. Any URL or pointer about where should I search for drivers, tutorials, information, help or anything is also welcome. I am completely clueless on this one.

Thank you very much.

Start by making your list of devices from their Windows 2000 list of drivers for the v6148EA, not the VISTA list.

I got the technical specifications and drivers from the official page, hope this helps:

Useful information, but not for obtaining Linux drivers, because it doesn't give brand and model.
This is a very good Compaq, and with the ability to upgrade to Windows 7, as it describes, you can make it better.
Many would just purchase the two year warranty extension and use it as a Windows Machine.
However, if willing to spend some funds, any of the top Driver sites, will perform an automatic detection of what drivers are needed... for a price.

I've been searching and asking and I think now the problem is solved, as root I run "alsa reload" and the sound now works, also I checked with glxinfo that the hardware graphics acceleration is enabled, and glxgears gives me 1000 FPS, 175 at full screen, which I suppose is all that I can get from my graphics card ??

With lspci I could get more information

I'm not really interested in spending funds, the person who was using this laptop recently bought a new one and lend this to me. I don't feel comfortable in windows so I installed debian, I used red-hat (was free back then), then ubuntu, then debian with the default configuration and now I'm using debian trying to install as less as possible to get the best performance that I can get, that's why I am facing problems that are completely new for me, as installing a new OS is not something that I usually do and this time I'm trying to do it as well as I can. The idea was to try gentoo next (in a few years), but I think I will repeat with debian, it's being hard enough.

Thank you again.
