Dvd-rw drive problems

I posted this yesterday under an old thread and didn't get any response. Thought I would start a new thread and see if I can get any help. Sorry about double posting.

I have a Pioneer Dvd burner that has done very well for me until the other night. I tried burning some movies and the software says wrong media. I tried 2 different kinds of dvd-r's with the same results.

I went to My Computer and the drive says cd-drive when I put the dvd-r in it. Take it out and then it would say dvd-rw drive. Is there anything I have to do in Windows to make sure this stays on dvd-rw drive?

Also under my properties for that drive it says cd drive. Any help would be really nice.

Thanks

Your drive might be failing. I presume it used to work okay for DVD-R disks before. How does it do with DVD+R or does it not support +R or +RW?

I use dvd-r's most of the time. I have used dvd+r's on occasion. Could the lens need cleaning. I hope that it isn't the drive, but will understand if it is. Thanks for the fast reply.
