Dvds dark after puing on disk?

Im having a bit of a issue with burning movies to disk. I use winavi to convert and burn them to disk using tmpgenc. However, when i play my newly burned movie in my dvd player the whole thing seems to have gotten a lot darker than the original avi file? anyone else experiance something similar using these programs? or a suggestion of a good program to brighten them back up?
