Elon Musk says lockdown is "fascist" and "forcibly imprisoning people in their homes"

I suppose you all prefer the advice from this billionaire who is awfully happy...

People love out of context right, anything to get click bait. Bloody hell, this quarantine is driving people nuts, calling evil left and right, calling conspiracy up and down.

Shame that,, in the UK all rentals are frozen residential and commercial and you can furlough your staff and the government will pay 80% of their pay,,

Did I miss the sarcasm? Rents are at the owners discretion, so you still have to pay rent for your housing so can't see how its different for businesses. You can furlough staff, but no one does, they all got laid off. Apparently Richard Branson, Vic the stick Beckham, all sacked staff instead of paying them.
They have money to pay staff and continue but choose not too. And many businesses don't want to have to argue for the 80% when the time comes and this is all over.

EVERY genius that contributed to mankind had bad ideas and weird opinions about some stuff along side the good ones. And almost every (if not every) invention or idea made for good has been used to do bad too.

Expecting someone to be right all the time about everything, well, that's just insane. Push it far enough and you will find yourself disagreeing with yourself at some point.

I just find it sad that no one thinks further than that one step where they see a potential to sell electric cars for £50k and up, and yet if the mining for the batteries ruins eco systems and screws the planet up in another form, then its null and void.

Besides, cars suck in general, it seemed like a great idea when there was 10 people per village and miles to drive to get stuff, now its redundant, but the price to make vs cost to customer means its win win in the bank.
Which makes no sense if every country is in debt to one another for trillions. Sorry but this world needs etch a sketching.

That may be, but the cost for such a program here would raise our taxes far higher than is tolerable. The simpler solution is to let people work, people need to work. What has this global lockdown caused? Billions in lost revenue, a 400% increase in domestic and child abuse, violent crimes not related to domestic abuse is on the rise, families are falling apart from close quaters. No this whole situation is worse than the virus.

Or not.

Cities that implemented lockdowns earlier in the Spanish Flu epidemic enjoyed greater economic success afterwards. https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/04/lockdowns-flatten-the-economic-curve-too/?utm_source=digg

And I guess multiplying the 230,000 deaths so far by a 2-4x number if we hadn't locked down is an OK price to pay. As long as it's someone else who's dead.

You people need to wake up. Look at the numbers for the flu. I guess we should all just quarantine for the rest of our lives now /s. Sheep.

<...> (I suppose that'll make the Democrat leadership happy, considering that they only wanted the provide aid to the big corporations - so much for all their crying about "corporate welfare.")
Good God, man! Please keep the political :poop: out of this. I do not know where you got this :poop: about only wanting to help big corporations, however, if the sources were diligently checked, the devil in the details is that the parties are crossed.

And I could easily say that republicans do not give a f uck whether we all live or die as long as their lobbyists keep contributing to their pockets.

In the uk still paying rent think rules you cant be evicted for 3months but still get into arrears, still working no option of furlough unless have a vulnerable condition only option of using holiday entiltlement.
Whole lockdown is a shambles some businesses hit hard hospitality, travel, food&drink and oil industry alot of profits/tax being lost so will be buisness as usual soon enough.
Keeping 2m social distancing is/will be the normal practice but is already failing miserably as people cant even walk down the street observing this with plenty of room to do so never mind confined spaces, dont worry though the nhs can handle it as we have aparently already hit the peak.
Wealth over health should be a government slogan.
On a positive note any online retailer, video streaming/gaming service, delivery firms, supermarkets/local shops, car insurance and the environment seem to be loving it.

it's surpassed a bad year of deaths for the flu already and that's with the lockdown. Without it what passes for a health service in the USA would be overwhelmed and what you wouldn't have a health service after as many of the workers would leave the profession with PTSD

That's a opinion which lacks evidence to back it up.

no not really, this thing has a kill rate of .03% after testing is revealing more people had it that never showed symptoms bringing the chance for serious complications below 1%, while we have at least 10% of the US workforce out of work, at least half of them don't have jobs to return to as the company they worked for is gone. That's going to cause mass homelessness which leads to starvation and an increase of crime to make ends meet. So .03% of the US population is 96,000 people roughly, a small price to pay honestly to keep 26 million out of poverty and homelessness.

The deaths in the US if you count those swept under the table are more than 96,000 already. There is no way the death rate is that low, at least 1% is more likely based on the data. Would up to three million deaths and very few health workers left who want to continue afterwords be a good result for you?

Screening in Florida suggests that about 10x the number of people who have tested positive with symptoms of covid-19 have the virus but with no symptoms.

The current worldwide fatality rate among tested people with either deceased or recovered outcomes is: 233,514/(1,037,041+233,514) = 18.4%.

With a 10 to 1 ratio of undiagnosed to diagnosed, that leaves us with about a 1.8% fatality rate with current data, not 0.03%. 1.8% of the US population is 5.9 million people.

As living in the US as a "free" country (it really isn't as every moment you are breaking some stupid law), I believe the freedom of choice.

If a business wants to stay open and accept the risk, let them. The government should not be able to mandate a company shut down. That is unconstitutional. Let the individual weigh the risk. A business should be able to be leveraged by the government to not force an individual to work by their own choice of risk factor. The said business should be willing to try allowing an environment that is (such as possibly working from home). Let the individual choose. Ya know - freedom! Those who have been laid off/furloughed from this are being mostly compensated by the government.

I am all for being respectable to others and their safety. I cannot account for every single person. Don't force me out of work just because you feel I shouldn't work because it's not safe for myself. I will worry about myself. :)

That's all very well, you may be able to keep yourself mostly safe, I assume you don't have to use Public Transport and can avoid busy areas something many couldn't do. If the R got to three which is very possible with business as usual, that would be an awful lot of deaths. The US is already on the way to having the worst results on Covid19 with the patchy shutdown, "we're number 1" is not good in this situation.

I hate public transportation, correct. I hate crowded areas, correct. If this isn't a wake-up call for the government to stop having people living on top of each other, I don't know what will. I'm looking at you, New York. Concentrating people makes about everything exponentially worse.

The Constitution over rules little tin pot dictators like Como.

You think the sheep will stop breeding. NY didn’t make people breed like rabbits, NY doesn’t create high immigration. No government on earth will act to reduce population growth, wait until the world has 15 billion and USA is 600 million. World is in a population ponzi scheme.

As for Musk he’s been mentally unstable for a long time, clearly bipolar at least. Opens his mouth to change feet.

About 380M in the US by 2050 and 430M by 2100. 600M seems not to be for a very long time, if ever.

95% confidence level projections for the world are 9-10B by 2050 and 9.5-13B by 2100. You're going to be waiting a while.

My feeling is that little Elon should volunteer in a NYC hosp[ital ward dealing with Covid19 patients, preferably without an N-95 mask. He can save that to put over his a**, where it will do the most good.

Beyond that, I think he should invite a couple of corona virus infected call girls over to his bunker, and give them each a few sloppy wet French kisses for me.

If this virus is as viralent as it's supposed to be, then it's likely already in everyone's homes. Who's going to wipe down everything they buy?
the people that buy the items are already wiping everything down as they buy, or put in the garage for a few days before opening. why, you aren't already doing this? it's almost May, get on with it!

And yet the planet is barely hanging on with the 7+ billion we already have
meant at Lew Zealand. the population growth slowed 3 years ago, and continues that trend, albeit slowly. but why bring up population count? are you insinuating you like to see death and despair? the planet has spoken to you.
