Epic Games Store blocks user accounts for making too many purchases

Facepalm: Epic's been having a Mega Sale at its gaming store and you'd be forgiven to assume that many users would flock to the marketplace and get some good deals. Well, not so fast. It turns out that buying a few too many games in one go results in Epic blocking your account.

Ask an impulsive shopper or someone waiting to check off a few items from their wish list: a sale's a good time to make purchases. For gamers, Epic's Mega Sale has a few nasty surprises. Not only have a few major titles disappeared during the sale, but it also seems that if you buy too many games too quickly, Epic might mistake you for a fraud and block your account, instead of someone who's looking forward to filling their Epic game library with untouched games similar to another library they might have with more untouched games.

As reported by GameRevolution, streamer Patrick Boivin came across this situation when he bought 5 games from the Epic Store resulting in his account being flagged as possibly fraudulent.

While Epic has been pushing hard to get gamers to use its platform, it turns out that a bare bones store missing out on important features that directly affect the user experience is certainly not epic. In this case, as pointed out by Patrick, the presence of a shopping cart might have made bulk purchases a lot smoother as the store front's fraud detection systems might be a bit too sensitive on individual purchases.

"This was a result of our aggressive fraud rules," Nick Chester, senior PR for Epic told GamerRevolution. "If players run into this issue, they should contact player support so we can investigate."

Considering that a sale usually sees users buying quite a few items in one visit, Epic's combination of strict fraud checks and lack of a shopping cart is likely going to make for an unpleasant shopping experience.

As Epic continues to catch up to Steam, it will need to iron out problems that surface on important events like a Mega Sale, besides spending out of their own pocket to make it possible in the first place.

Look, I love to hate on the epic games store for the sake of trolling on the internet, but how are you NOT going to have a shopping cart? I could make a shopping cart in under 200 lines of code. Further, how is fraud detection that doesn't work more important than a shopping cart?

And not like that's a new issue. Months ago people were complaining about the lack of shopping cart and I seriously don't know what they are waiting for. It's not just the customer who's gonna benefit from it, more people will use their service if they had it in the first place.

But people are still dropping money into this terrible store?

as long as people are willing to drop cash on something oh so terrible then they should shut up, its kinda sad how much people gripe and laugh at something while throwing their wallet into a fire, they have no reason to be better when people still deal with them while they have so many shortcomings.

And the hits just keep on coming.

Seriously, it's like the people who put together the Epic store have never actually USED a digital delivery store system before. Imposed blanket discount sales that force some of their big titles to pull from the store until the sale is over, now locking out customers who are actually PARTICIPATING in their big sale?

Their low percentage take from the developers is the ONLY positive I've seen on the Epic store so far. Everything else has been either shady marketing tactics (I.e. negotiating exclusives) or actual incompetence. But, I guess the old adage is true: You get what you pay for.

But hey! Evil Steam should cut their prices...

On another Hey! I don't like dwelling on little things but... if we say it it gets flagged and removed but if you quote bad words in your topics it's cool? Ducking shopping cart!

Wow, yet another reason to avoid the Epic store. How can an online store not have a shopping cart, it's pretty much a basic requirement. Sorry Epic but it seems you guys couldn't organise a p!ss-up in a brewery.

I really wanted to play beyond two souls. It is cheap, it is PC, and it is an amazing story game.
I also anticipate and welcome more playstation or xbox titles becoming available on PC. Am I gonna buy them? Heck yes! Although, I havent used epic launcher once ...

As long as you're not also one of those gamers also whining about the EG store I dont see a problem, do what you do.

in my case, I dont like how epic handles itself so I'd buy these games for my ps4, steam isnt just a storefront imo, its a community, what if I buy a game and theres some issue? with steam I can go into a forum made for that game and chances are I will find a fix or at least a reason to why my game is losing it.

I get why epic has made the moves it has but I also see how it's watched steam probably for years with jealousy in the shadows and learned nothing from it, explains why their store is such a steaming heap.
