Epic somewhat opening the Apple and Google ecosystems has been good, although it hasn't actually changed anything for US iOS users.

I love steam's big screen interface. But since you're comparing it to Chrome tabs I'm guessing your PC is on the weaker or older side. I had a 3900X (now 5800X3D) with plenty of RAM in my living room PC when I transitioned from primarily gaming in my home office to the couch.

The other steam interface when gaming in my office is a bit clunky but I'm mostly scrolling a bit and hitting play so I don't mind (on a fast PC).

It bogs down my brand new, reimaged gaming laptop too. Heroic runs much better for me. Even in Linux! Shame Valve won't open up to it.

This is complete FUD. What are you trying to actually say? What "well working ecosystems"? Are you're talking only about Steam, or are you talking about Apple's appstore, or what? And how is he "working hard to demolish" said ecosystems?

I haven't had any problems on my last 4 desktops, but I've always had 64-128GB of RAM in those for the work I do. I also haven't noticed a steam issue on my last 3 Surface Pros either which were limited by form factor but they had/have an i7 with 32GB.

Valve is very pro Linux so I'm not sure what you mean there.

Yeah, that's weird given those specs. I'd be tempted to reinstall steam/windows but that's a pain.

I already have. It's not a constant stutter but it's still frequent enough to be annoying.
