Error after Downloading Acrobat 8 Professional Freeware

I downloaded the Adobe Acrobat 8 professional Mac version from Techspot and installed it on my iMac (OS X 10.6.8) to replace a copy that I had purchased originally but that would no longer launch after being restored from my back-up drive after hard drive replacement. When I launch the new Acrobat 8 Pro I get the very same error message, which pops up after the Getting Started screen opens in Acrobat: "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot launch at this time. You must launch at least one other component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional". So I downloaded the freeware for Photoshop, installed it and then launched Acrobat 8 Pro with the same result- the same error message pops up. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
