I have an Asus P5e3 mobo and would like to set this up to use my external eSATA hard drive. When I plug the drive into the port on the back of the mobo nothing shows up in Windows 7 64bit RC. I have a dual boot with Windows XP 32bit on a separate internal hard drive. (all my internal drives are SATA) When I boot into XP with the eSATA external drive plugged in I don't even get past the splash screen. Plugging it in while XP is running causes the whole system to freeze up.

This may possibly have something to do with enabling or configuring the AHCI in the BIOS but I am a bit fuzzy on the details.

Would appreciate any help.

The external hard drive works fine when I use the USB or Firewire cables.

Thanks for your reply but it is not enabled. Could it be that there's something wrong with the port itself? Else why it would it cause windows XP to completely freeze up?
