Have you tried inserting into a different USB slot?? I'm thinking you've got a bad slot on the PC.

Reviews are not good on this device:

  • UPDATE :10 th August , 2012

This is the email the " geniuses " at Kingston sent me AFTER I bought the drive. I IMPLORE prospective buyers to read this carefully before you buy :

    "Kingston Technology says:
We apologize for the issue you are having. This drive is considered to be an entry level product, and as such, may not be suited for the end user who is looking for a performance drive.
Also it has been discontinued
And apparently preloaded with software
  • Handy - compact size, swivel design
Guaranteed - five-year warranty, free technical support
    Customizable - co-logo program available
    Preloaded - with urDrive software
    Fashionable - available in multiple colors: 4GB-Cyan, 8GB-Red, 16GB-Black, 32GB-Purple, 64GB-Green

By the way I can't download from this program. It always says there is an error.

Yes I fully understand, only suggesting there can be reasons for your issues with this device.
Apparently you have data on it and would like to preserve it. Can you get another system connected to your router so as to enable Print/File Sharing and use that to copy off the data?

Hi! I'm not very good with hardware. Let's see what @jobeard thinks. I'm leaning toward the mother board; maybe the power supply. I didn't see the part where the stick worked on other PCs, before this last reply. I'm not a fan of 3rd party driver programs, but maybe in your case, it was worth a try.;) I don't have a clue why other devices work from the USB ports and this one doesn't, and I don't know why you can't down load a driver from the 3rd party driver program. It could be a power problem to the ports with the stick not working.
Wondering if you tried the repair tool I suggested in my reply above before this one? The report that @jobeard posted doesn't think to highly of this stick. I really don't have any more suggestions for your issue.;)
I have used this program before, but I only recommend it when I can't get the driver from the manufacture.

Personally, with the known symptom and the fact that it will load on another system says the device is 'usable' so I would be resistant to running any tool on it to edit or alter it - - it would risk the existing data.

The problem of downloading is related to the link itself and if it doesn't make an offer that will download, there's only two choices left
  1. find another that does
  2. go without
I assume that the PC will load other USB devices and only has issues with this specific device and thus it is NOT an issue with the physical USB port - - just the driver for this device.

IMO, you're up a creek and need to extract the existing data any way you can, as suggested above.

Hi. Just one last word. This is not my first rodeo. I have had USB ports that work with some devices but not work with other devices and that includes Flash drives and external drives .
The port recognizes the stick, but fails to install it. That tells me it could be a power problem for this model of stick. I'm just looking for reasons for this problem. The link I posted about repairing the stick advises you to get the data off before you attempt to repair it. I'm bowing out now. Good luck with your problem.
This is a quote taken from the repair link I suggested. I try to give the best suggestions I know and hope I find one that works.
Tips for using Kingston dt 101 g2 format & repair tool
No matter what Kingston dt 101 g2 USB problems you have faced, you can try to repair it easily by formatting. But here please note two tips before performing the operation.

1.Backup or recover your important data from Kingston dt 101 g2 USB flash drive. For a detailed guide, please refer to Kingston flash drive recovery.

2.If the Kingston dt 101 g2 pen drive is write-protected, please first remove the Write-protection. Otherwise, it won’t be formatted or repaired successfully. For a detailed guide, please refer to The disk is write-protected.

Hi! Here's a shot in the dark. This is above my pay grade.
To view the power allocations for a USB hub

  1. Open Device Manager.

  2. Double-click Universal serial bus controllers.

  3. Right-click USB Root Hub (you might have multiple instances), and then click Properties.

  4. On the Power tab, view the power required by each device in the Attached devices list.

I had one last thought - - Auto Discovery.

Power off the PC and when shutdown, INSERT the USB - - now restart the system.
Microsoft Auto Discovery will 'attempt' to find the missing driver for itself.

Be advised; we already known there is software on the stick, and if properly installed there, it could be Auto Run in place of booting Windows - - and that's a risk. Personally, I've set my system to NEVER AUTO RUN anything so I can scan devices before opening them.

@diab2004 any status change??
Sorry guys for my late response and thank you for your great help, I really appreciate this.
I have installed new windows xp and I have the same problem.
For your info:
  • USB slot works correctly as I inserted printer cable and the printer works 100%.
  • Tried other USB stick on this PC and still have same problem.
  • My USB stick works fine on other PCs as I tried it again.
  • There is no auto run on my stick, Just data for my work.
  • After installing new XP windows still have this pic

Hi. Sorry. IDK! I have given you my best shot. If you reinstalled XP and still no Flash drives are recognized, the only thing that comes to my mind at the moment is Mother Board or power supply. If you have done every thing that @jobeard and I have suggested and still your flash is not recognized, I do not have a clue.
Good luck! I'm out of ideas.

You are getting the correct Auto Discovery prompt - - Found New Hardware. If that doesn't work and the site link will not download, IMO you're stuck. The MB and PS are not the issue, but the chipset IS MISSING a driver.
