Ethernet card problem

Ok my laptop has both wireless networking and an ethernet port for an ethernet cable. The wireless internet works but when I disable that and connect an ethernet cable to the ethernet port it cannot connect to the internet. The local area connection shows acquiring network address then gets dropped immediately and repeats. I was wondering if the reason for this happening had to do with the ethernet card or something wrong with the ip configuration. I have disabled all firewalls and no luck at all. I have Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller installed as a ethernet card and have upgraded the driver with latest updates.

The easiest thing to check first is your ethernet cable. Try replacing it with a known working cable.
